Olde English Style

Something that makes me curious is: why do just about all modern English hand made traditional patterns have brass bolsters? In the old days the bolsters of English made knives were either iron or nickel silver -- almost never brass. Why the change? On one hand it makes it very easy to tell a modern one from an antique, but I just don't see why they would ever change -- these are some of the most total traditionalists you'll ever find after all.

I think it might have been natural progression.
This is just my theory.
After WWII England had a supply shortage for along time. Probably quite a bit of excess brass. As goverment at the time helped business reastablish. Maybe cutlers were provided cheap brass, or all they could get & being set up to work with it, it just sort of stuck.
Shiefield made knives was always a big import to Australia. I always remeber brass fittings on grandparents knives, including kitchen.
As I said just my theory I could be way off the mark.
