I purchased an older Schrade Walden yesterday. I believe it may be a serpentine jack, longest blade a clip and the smaller a spear blade. There's an acorn shield (Schrade Walden engraved) on the jigged bone handle. The # 272 is stamped on the clip blade tang, opposite the S/W, NY,USA stamp. Might anybody out there be familiar with the time frame this knife was manufactured. Thanks for the time and space. Dale H.

Dale, just a quick search showed the #272 in the 1954 Schrade Walden catalog. It included a reference to the pattern's old number (under Schrade Cutlery pre-1946) as #2725 3/4. You can research the pattern further yourself by looking through the old Schrade catalogs posted at Larry's COSRUS site:

Don't forget to come back here and post the results of your research!

This is a great resource and contains a wealth of information on all things Schrade!

Thanks once again Michael. Went to the site you refered me to and had no problem finding the knife I questioned. Yrs. of manufacture range from 1946 thru 1956. It is a serpentine, nickel silver bolsters, and the shield is a Federal shield. It says it measures 2 & 7/8 inches, however this one measures at 3 inches (not that it matters). Thanks once again for the reference! Dale H.

I'd like to see a picture Dale. It is it peachseed bone? I have one that is late 40's, peachseed comp with the USA omitted from the stamp, and nothing on the back. Stamped on both blades. I have ones like you mentioned, only in Delrin, and it is likely late 60's early 70's. I've posted these before. Your's sounds like it falls in the middle, like Michael stated.

There was also a cigar box version,Walden stamped, in 2002-03 but it was 2 3/4" and did not have 272 on the back of the tang. I'd like to see your 3" piece with the acorn tang.

I :thumbup:would love to show you my model 272 but I must admit to my ignorance of not knowing how to display pictures. Our knives look identical . My apologies for not being picture capable. I have a digital camera and my computer is capable, my own computer skills are what's lacking. Dale H.

back in the 1953 catalog the 272 is pictured in a "stagged" handle. Not Delrin but not real stag either. Check out the 12th page. It also lists the older Schrade number 2725 3/4.

woops missed Codgers note. Sorry for the dup.

The one I showed is not bone stag, and I do not no the significance of having each blade stamped or minus the USA, other than "older". So that is an example of one is "stagged" but not bone. Dale, it you could email me a picture of the knife you have, I'd post it for you. Just send a personal message with your email address through this forum, and I'll send you my email address.
