Older Spyderco Delica plastic clip

Hey there people of the knife world! First post, so be nice!

I will be receiving an older Delica that has the plastic clip and I was wondering if Spyderco can replace the handle if the clip breaks or wears out? I know that the newer models (series II and up) have metal clips that can be "adjusted" (i.e. bent by the owner to make them snug again) or be completly replaced.

Any suggestions?

I have heard of integral clips being replaced by the repair dept. Apparently they tap new holes and put on a metal screw. Expect to pay about $20 for the service.

According to the warranty, Spyderco doesn't cover anything that wears out naturally. They will "recommend you retire the item."

I don't know that they necessarily include the integral, FRN clips in that policy though. I know that they've had several break (there's a difference between something "breaking" and something "wearing out"), and I belive that's why the discontinued the integral, FRN clip on a majority of their more popular models (that excludes the Spydersaw, the Catcherman, and the FRN Dragonfly). I don't think Spyderco would suggest "retiring" an otherwise "healthy" knife just because the integral, FRN clip broke off, but I don't work for Spyderco, so my opinion is just that.

I have had one in for that very thing. I do not remember what it cost, but the results looked great. They just tap it and stick a metal clip on it. The knife I sent in had been used pretty hard. About 1/4" of the tip was broken from who knows what. The clip gut hung up on some branches while in a pocket and snapped off.

I want to say that the sharpened and reprofiled the blade for free, but I do not remember if there was a charge for the clip replacement. There had to have been one, I just don't remember it.
