older stockmans versus newer ones (USA)

Did Buck open a Buck factory in China? Or are they contracting with a Chinese knifemaker?

I have heard that some of the best knife steel comes from Japan. The only Japan knife I am familiar with is the Spyderco which is a great knife.

I still favor the USA made Buck knives but I also purchased a China made Cadet at Walmart with the wood handles for inclusion in my collection of 303s ( I currently have about 30 different ones ). The fit and finish are perfect and it even has brass liners!

They have brass liners?? I honestly for one like the brass liners on a slippie.

300 bucks do you know when Buck stopped using brass liners? Where any of the in house knives made with brass?

For stockman patterns, Buck stopped using brass liners when they switched to the current design where each blade has it's own backspring in 1991.

In house ones started in 1986, so there are a few years of Buck made with brass liners.

Thanks. I'm going to try to keep my eyes open for a few. The older Bucks (just a few) I have are not in house. They have the long pull.

Kyhunt,

Thank BCCL a lot, maybe that will help me make him feel guilty about how he could write the BCCI website history for the 301, if he chose to do so..........hint..hint...........300
