Older version of Spyderco Delica

It's been a while since I posted on any of these forums, but I figure this is the best place to get an answer to a niggling question.

My first EDC knife was a Spyderco Delica with the molded pocket clip. Several years back, I caught the clip on a door frame and it snapped off. I replaced it with the newer generation Delica with the reversible metal clip. And though I recognize the company's reasons for making the change, I still miss that smooth, molded clip. The metal clip has sharper edges and corners and it only took a few days of regular use before the paint on the clip began to show scratches and wear.

I've tried doing some Internet searching for those older models to no avail. Can anyone direct me to a source that might still sell them?

i know what you mean about the sharp edges on the delica 3 style clips. i actually used a grinder on mine a little to get the points and edges off, but it could still use more grinding to make it better. i REALLY liked the change on the delica 4 clips, very small and NO sharpness anywhere (except blade :))

i'm getting a caly 3 for christmas this year, so i don't have to worry about it with that wire clip.

good luck with the search. maybe SAL will chime in here and have some old, old style clips at the shop.

I'm a big fan of the integral clip Spyderco's myself. In my case it's the Endura. I have three of the old style, all of them bought on Ebay. I don't know anyone that still stocks them, as they were discontinued in 1998 IIRC. If you live in a very rural area you might be able to find one at a store that might still have some old stock (this would be very very rare, though people have found them using this method). You could post in the wanted section of this forum, or keep an eye on the for sale forums. If you still have the old Delica, Spyderco might be able to replace the integral clip with a metal one, might not be what you were looking for but a thought. Good luck in the hunt!!!

Cheers,
Rob

I can't help with finding an old style Delica, but if you think you could get by with a bit shorter blade, check out the Dragonfly. I believe that the Dragonfly is the only knife still being produced with the integral clip. They're also fairly inexpensive, so maybe you can pick yourself up a couple of them so you'll have a spare in case you break another clip somewhere down the road. Good luck!

I've have a Delica with the integral clip since about 1994. It's the only Spydie I own. I carry it about 2-3 days a week and I LOVE it.

Another big fan of the integral clip.
I have both the Endura & Delica with
that clip. Could never understand how
people broke them off ???
I've had mine for around 10 years.
Last month I ordered a Delica 4 (in pink)
I must say there has been quite an improvement
from my Delica "0" to the new Delica "4"
