Oldest Using Knife

One of the subsets of my knife hobby is collecting knives that belonged to relatives and friends.

I don't know the exact ages of the knives in this "subset" but I have knives from both grandfathers, one grandmother, both of my parents, many other relatives, and many dear friends, some long departed.

I'm currently dealing on a knife that belonged to the father of a close friend. The knife was used to cut and peal oranges from his grove here near Ocala many years ago. My friend has many knives from his father so he probably won't miss just one. :D

my oldest is a gerber FS11 drop point, circa 1979 or '80, a great design in its time, i always liked them better than the buck 110, they were lots slimmer.

I loved that knife! Had a couple of the same model, now they're long gone.

I still have one in the trailing point, as well as an FS-I, so those are likely the oldest that I use. Also, I have a few old carbon steel Camillus pockeknives, not sure how old they are, '70s at least, that I use from time to time. The old Camillius's get wicked sharp!

Most of the knives I use are less than 10 years old...

I knew a guy named Joe Bracken who fought in Vietnam. He was in 1990 going through a horrible divorce and I baby sat his child for free for two months. In return he gave me a Western W 49 he used in the 1968 Tet Offensive. I had a new sheathe made and the late Alex Collins polished the knife.

I have a tickler fish knife my Dad used in the late 40's to clean fish with. It has a scaler blade too.

I also have a knife my wife made by hand during the Cultural Revolution (1964) in China.
