Hi Guys- :)

I have a hunter/utility available. The full tang blade is O1, hardened and tempered to 60/61C and ground to a very thin edge. Handle scales are WSSI stabilized Olive wood with black G10 liners, domed/polished 416 pins, and ss lanyard tube.

This wood has a very warm feel to it, I really enjoyed working with it. IMHO, the glow of the light wood contrasts well with the black G10 liners.

OAL- 7-13/16"
Blade- ~3-9/16"L x 15/16"W x 0.120" thick
weight- 3.7 oz.

I'm out of leather, so I do not have a sheath for this knife--- sorry.

SOLD, thanks Rick! in the states; will gladly discuss int'l options with our friends outside of the states

Another "Wheeler WOW". Great materials ,specs, photos, price, and a fabulous looking logo. Nick, you are killing me with your command of the edged tool. I will begin begging the wife for funds on Thanksgiving. How can she refuse?

Thanks fellas :)

So... I have some thoughts regarding this type of knife and rather than me sweating them in my mind... I'm gonna just throw them out hoping to get some feedback (and try not to sound like a whiny little girl in the process, LMAO).

I see a lot of posts around the various forums where guys say stuff like, "Well So&So is a Journeyman or Mastersmith, they only make fancy stuff... not using knives." Or when I make a true using blade, I often get responses like, "Guys like you should make stuff like this more often."

I know for a fact there is a maker here on the forums that sells knives like the one in this thread, but without domed pins, for my asking price or more, ALL DAY LONG within minutes of posting them.

I have been a Journeyman in the ABS since 2007, have been making knives for 23 years, and can sell every $1,000+ bowie I make.... Yet a simple and clean hunter/utility is just sitting here....

So what am I missing here guys?

I gotta figure this out, because as of right now, this knife represents several hours spent in the shop without pay... and that screams to me that I simply need to quit making knives like this.

Please understand, I am NOT complaining. :foot: I am certainly NOT looking for a pity purchase. I am trying to better understand this end of the market.
:)

Thanks in advance for any thoughts, advice, musings, etc.!!! :)

At this end of the market, disposable income is not always that disposable...

Maybe next time don't put it up for sale 3 days before Black Friday and the holiday season.

In my opinion this knife is a BARGAIN at this price. It is priced about what I would ask for a similar knife, only I am no J.S. and certainly no where near the maker you are.
I think a lot of people buy a knife caring more about cheap price than about the unseen things that make a high quality custom knife.
Heat treating being priority #1 in my book.
I bet if you make a sheath for it, it would sell.

Awesome little knife.

I think ya have a few things working against you - you've built a "brand" and based on my watching for the last couple of years that brand has been ridiculous hand finishing, hidden tangs, tapered tangs - basically the works. I realize that you can't hit this pricepoint with all the bells and whistles.

I suspect the folks that sell knives like this all day at the same price have spent time building their brand catering to that particular market.

Now I am not saying that you can tap this market or they can't make ridiculous Bowies like yours, only that knives are a product and marketing does play a role.

Also like has been mentioned I suspect the market gets tougher the lower your price, not the opposite.
*more competition, Less discretionary income, etc.

Nick, I make knives and very rarely buy one, but this is that rare occasion. I'll take it. My main business is sheath making and other leather products, so I'm never out of leather. Be assured this one will have have a special cover. It's also going to be a user, no place for it on a wall.
pm sent on payment
Rick
