My local tooling shop showed me a couple blanks they have left from Olsen Knives, out of Michigan. They were contracted to machine the bevels and hollow grinds on them a few years ago. However, all the research I found shows Olsen dropped out in 1985. I doubt these knife blanks were 25 years old. Did someone buy the name and try making them a few years ago?
The blank was interesting. It was a stamped 1/4" blank and then hardened. Then the tooling was setup to do all the grinds, bevels, etc. Then apparently a handle would be bolted on. It appeared that all the work was done by machine.
Should I pick one of these up and finish it? The shop still had three of the knife blanks, and a fourth that was a finished knife that one of the machinists finished.
