Omega springs?

If you torque down a 275 clip enough it would fit but you will have slop because of the larger hole size. If you have an 810 you can use the clip from that model as the diameter is the same on all other models. Make sure you use the existing clip screws on whatever knife you are replacing the clip on as the length does vary and can potentially interfere with the blade path or the liners.

I had an Omega spring break on my Kulgera after about 3 years of EDC. The other Omega spring broke within a week after the first one broke. I sent the knife in and they sent it back in about a week. The knife was nicely tuned, cleaned and sharpened. I was very happy with the customer service.

How do you properly (or improperly) maintain an axis lock? Not trying to be a smartass, it just seems pretty maintenance free.

Maybe some people let a bunch of dirt and crap get in there? Holy crap I bet there ARE people out there like that. I think I just answered my own question! :o

Hmm... anyway, yeah the clip on my Rift is a Contego clip. They included 3 bright screws to go with it (odd?) but those didn't match so I reinstalled 2 black screws. Also the clip was polished. It didn't look right so it flamed it.

This is before-

I've owned quite a few different BM's with the Omega springs. A couple of them were used a lot, and not babied, but never broke a spring.

Anything can break, but I think the ones that have broken, are a very small minority.

Omega springs rust and so do guitar strings. Removing rust from Omega springs is a PITA and so is making springs from strings.

I have been using Axis knives literally since the very first days of the 710 and several of my knives have probably got millions of cycles. I have *never* had a spring break.

The 810 low ride clip is a perfect fix on the Grip and Mini Grip. Got one on my Mini Grip and it is very nice. All that shows is the clip.

Seeing as how springs cannot be made of stainless steel so far as I know I suspect most Axis spring failures are due to corrosion damage to the springs in question. Thus it is an environmental issue and if so such failure would be most likely in knives carried in a high humidity environment which also gets them exposed to perspiration or other salt exposure which encourages rust. Use aboard ship by Navy or USCG personnel would be an example of problem use I suspect.

Are the BM Omega springs surface coated or treated in any way to protect them from corrosion?

You can get coated guitar strings (Elixer id one of the brands) I'm sure the spring would eventually wear through the coating but It would protect it for a good while.

I have never seen any rusty omega springs but I don't doubt that it can happen if you get crap in that cavity and don't clean it out.
