Perfect? What are you going to use it for?

Seems a tad on the big side.

BTW Im not disputing its the 'perfect' knife for you, Im just curious as to why.

That blade shape is my favourite, It just looks cool and is pretty practical. and i llike the idea of almays having enough knife for the job, I often have to cut fairly thick rope and a large blade aids in this.

Just wait till you hold one in your hand...its even better. I recently bought a 950 Rift (kinda like the 810's little brother) but then I held a Contego and kinda wish I went with that one instead. Aside from having a slightly bigger blade (although the 950's blade is plenty big enough) the ergonomics just felt a little better. And the jimping felt good whereas the Rift doesn't even have any. There are a lot of reviews that say the Contego's handle is too rough but I didn't find that to be the case at all. I don't have any experience with M4 steel, but it looks pretty interesting. The glass breaker is a nice added bonus too.

Hey, I think I just convinced myself to buy one as well!

They got a lot of things right with the Contego. The blade is very thick, yet tapers to a very thin edge, and the result is a knife that cuts better than just about every other big folder. And they got the CPM M4 right too, it holds an edge for a long time and is still tough. What a knife. The handle is brutal on pockets, but the deep carry clip rocks. Its grippy, tough as nails, has fantastic steel, and has a very lean edge. I didn't believe how thin the grind one was until I got my hands on one. The Contego was a home run.

It's not for the tender handed and may hurt someone's hand that doesn't have tough skin! I like mine it came very sharp, the blade is dead centered closed, lock up is smooth and solid. The steel is excellent, grip is too although as I said some may find it too rough. Overall a great buy, I paid around 130.

I like the looks, but for me the handle is way uncomfortable. I immediately filed down the edges of the G10, but it didn't really help much.
It may have just been the size of my hands Vs. the size of the handle, so it's probably fine for people with larger or smaller hands.
My favorite thing about it was how insanely sharp I was able to get it!

I actually didn't care for the 810 Contego and sold mine. I'm now getting a Forum Rift in CPM-M4 to replace it.

Let me say that my issues with the 810 were not with the blade. I LOVE the CPM-M4 steel, takes and holds a RIDICULOUS edge. The edge is also very thin for a big hefty folder. I also enjoy the blade shape, enough tip for some detail work, but great for slicing.

My one complaint with the blade was that I had the BK1 coated blade and the coating got real ugly real quick. The Satin blade obviously wouldn't have that problem.

My problem was the handles......First off, WAY TO MUCH aggressive gimping. It really is uncomfortable to hold. Secondly, that big half-moon cutout is just odd. It makes the blade feel like it is at a weird angle in the hand and made me feel like I couldn't get proper leverage when cutting. It also destroyed my pockets in my khakis and jeans.

Anyhow, YMMV. I know some folks love it. I know I'm going to love my CPM-M4 Rift , as it will have everything that I love about the 810, and nothing that I disliked.

Let us know what you think when you get it!

The Contego was an odd knife to me. Like others have said the ergos were a bit off IMO. That giant finger choil made gripping the knife really uncomfortable. I'm also not too big of a fan of big, heavy bladed axis lock knives. I don't think the springs have quite enough strength to function as a detent with the Contego's heavier blade. This is just my opinion of course. It's not a bad knife but I think they could improve on some things here and there.

Been carrying mine a week now,I have push cut bamboo, zip ties, card board, nothing is even close to holding its edge like this m4 in my collection, for the price tag, I cannot think of a better buy..P.S Its smaller then a spyderco military..
