Ominous Trend

Fellow forumites take heed! I detect what I perceive to be a very ominous trend in usage of the forums. I could swear that as the weather warms, the days grow longer, etc., that Friday nite and Saturday forum participation is in steady decline.

I can assume only one thing: Most forumites have a life in addition to the forums and knives! How did this treacherous situation arise? I mean that some of us, those without lives, NEED the forums. (Well, at least I do.)

Can someone at least throw me a bone and promise me that say maybe late October things return to normal around here? I'm looking at maybe as much as 5-6 months total of the jones to varying degrees.

I'll keep the home fires burning! Please hurry back.

Desertedly,

Bugs3x,
Ahhhh the great outdoors! Home of the insidious Rhus Toxicodendron, a horrible gusher of urushiol. As much as I enjoy a frolic in the great outdoors, shooting fishing, camping and just plain being awandreing w/sharp instruments, the dreaded splash of urushiol has rendered me temorarily housebound.

Ugh! Beaten by a plant! Viva la Vegatarians! Eat those green monsters and save humanity!

I'm with Solid_Soldier, this is like a second home. I remeber what life was like when Spark was revamping the system. I was starting to shudder without the forums. I do have a life (I think), but the forums and all of you fellow forumites are part of it. Although I am not on this forum 24 hurs out of the day, I do try to check in at least 1 time a day.

Ah, spring... when a young man's fancy turns to thoughts of... well, thoughts of actually getting out an using some of those knives.

If general forum activity slows, then take the shallower depth as an opportunity to pursue more width. Read some of the forum sections that you wouldn't normally. You can broaden your knowledge, maybe learn something.

Take time to utilize the search engine and look back through old posts (there's enough material here to keep you reading about knives for several lifetimes).

Spring is a time for new things, new flowers poking up, the birds nesting in my dryer vent now have a growing (and noisey) family of new chicks. Maybe you should take up some new knife interests. Why not try your hand at balisong manipulation? If that doesn't appeal to you, get some files and try fileworking a few old blades. Maybe make yourself a new sheath or two. Whittling? If you're very brave, you could even seek out a local maker who could help you take up knife making.

Gollnick,

Do you mean to say that we should actually USE the knives that we collect???

.

(...But I collect mainly "fighting-knives", so I see their daily use as being problematic with the local police & courts!.

There you have it! if you like fighters but don't know how to use one, get a trainer and learn. That'd be an excellent summer activity for you.

Gota try out that Puma Cougar knife as well

Nice to see how a $500-$600 154CM 6" blade will work in the field. Heck its in the custom price bracket! And I have one to try out!

Thanks all for your responses. Glad to know that some others suffer withdrawal.

Hal, have never heard of urushiol. Will try to remember to look it up tomorrow.

Chuck -- well put. My major reason for being so chained to my PC is health. The worst aspect of that so far as doing things, is that I suffer frequent, lengthy migraines, which make me terribly photophobic. So, can't get out there and enjoy the sunshine which I dearly love. At least not without much more pain than I can handle.

I am hopeful of getting an exercize program going again. I love to walk, and when can, do. I do need to practice my eclectic version of self-defense, knife draws, etc. Too often, my body won't allow it though.

I read a surprising amount of old forum stuff. I hit Spyderco company's forum daily. I do several forums here, and am increasing them. You're right, that's the only way I'm going to survive. One of the better aspects of my health problems is the pervasive memory loss that accompanies one of my other afflictions. That means that I can re-read something just a month or two after reading -- even writing part -- something, and it is all new to me. So, many lifetimes for sure.

Again thanks all, and come back, if you go away for awhile.

And reading this place helps? Ok.

Seriously, though, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope and pray that some curative can be found for you.

Hey redvenom -- Do they have a life that is fairly normal, with female companionship only when desired or needed? Course, that knife shop business sounds inviting.

Chuck -- thanks. Appreciate the thought. At this juncture, no expectations of "cure" or even substantial relief. Essentially have two physical problems with two coincident/related mental probs. Each one is bad enough itself, but the mental problems definitely directly related to the physical, as well as life situation(s) etc. So, I hunker here much of the time. Absolutely love it. My interest has only gained, not waned.

Bugs,
Fear not. Stuff will pick up in the next 30 days a little as people get ready for the Blade Show. The week before will be pretty active, the week of the show will be dead-as-a-morgue. Then the week after will pick back up again. After that, it will slow down for the summer. Just remember, like I keep telling my wife, quality is more important than quantity

Sorry to hear that Bugs, but glad you are a member here and able to keep the ol' keyboard a-flailing!

I'm with you on this bigtime. Where have all the posts gone? This place is DEAD lately.

It's scary...

I'm worried...

Mommy?
