On being a HOG

I've been motivated by adrock1978's wonderful recent thread about being a HOG to comment on my perceptions on the matter.

Please understand that these are the thoughts of someone who is not a HOG, but who owns quite a few Busse blades and has had a couple of scotch before posting (admittedly those must be a couple of criteria).

It seems to me that HOG status involves a few considerations, which adrock1978 meets with flying colours...

- commitment - to the company, its incredible gang (Amy-O, Garth, Skunk, Jerry [of course] etc)
- community - in my view, this is the most inspiring aspect of Busse and its related organizations. I am perpetually amazed by the connection that results from this shared interest in a great product and a wonderful team under great leadership. As an example, OldPhysics recently helping out KnifeAddictAK getting settled for a new phase of life in college... what a great testament to the strength of community that is born of shared interests and mutual support! It is this culture of support combined with a great product that has resulted in Busse blades being the only knives that are consistently carried into the bush by me, my wife, and my three adult children (my son and two daughters).
- a certain element of 'crazy' - this seems to go without saying here!

It's a privilege to be a part of this, even peripherally.

Thanks Jerry!!

Hmmmmm, but didn't that thread feature an e-argument and some name calling. Now I ask you, what kind of an example of community/mutual support is that?

:D:D:D

I have to admit that i didn't focus on every message in the thread... I think I have a built-in filter that puts a higher weighting on the positive :)

I've been a lurker/occasional poster here for about 5-6 yrs, and I have found this (the Busse forum) to be a great place for commitment to excellence and to each other. :D

That's the "Nature of the Beast" . . . "Hogs eat their own". . .

As for that other thread. . . all I can say is "I Smell Bacon!"

There are many, many new HOGs that need to be inducted!!!!

If we can get our email to operate normally we will have another e-induction very soon!!!!

After all, "E-HOGs" are the Bane of Bravado's Existence!!!! (What other reason do you need???)

Let's Drink!!!

Jerry :D

No worries, it all seems to have ended on a positive note. Once again balance has been restored to the Busse Universe.

And that is all the reason I need. Heck, it's all I have ever needed. I am thinking about the possibility of a double induction into E-HOGdom.

:p

Walkabout, I think you have expressed my sentiments as well.

I look forward to the next online induction so I can hopefully become a HOG.

I have not been here as long as you have but all of my encounters with members of this forum have been positive and helpful.

I am just glad to know that I am not the only INFI lovin' freak out there that has to have his knives sent to his PO Box because his wife thinks he only has 2 knives.

And if you ask her I only have 2 guns (because they're all black) and the flashlights and gadgets I buy are just cheap little trinkets.

This forum is a brotherhood/sisterhood of Busse weilding freaks and it's the best forum I have ever frequented, hands down.;)

:) It can be interesting to explain why yet another package has arrived containing a knife. To be honest, I even have a hard time justifying it to myself sometimes. Perhaps that's how you define a hobby... an enjoyable pastime which demands an unjustifiable amount of time and expense :D

I don't think I'll accumulate enough blades or contribute enough to the Busse community to be HOG-worthy, but I wanted to emphasize that there is a stronger and more broad sense of community to this forum than others that I hang around... it often extends beyond the 'camaraderie of cutlery' and into a more extended supportive network around day-to-day life.

[Funny... I had mistakenly typed "cultlery" at first... maybe that should be a new term for our obsession with whatever aspect of this hobby draws us?]

My friend, from my understanding of what a HOG is, you are one at heart.

I believe, and I could be wrong, that you could have only one Busse and be a HOG with that state of mind.

Blachhhhhhhh! I just threw up in my mouth!! Not another one!!:grumpy:

All this Kumbaya stuff is so sweet.
