On Last Knife - At least until I retire

if nothing really stands out at the moment, hold on to that money as your knife fund in case something new comes out that you really like.

do you ever look at the arizona custom knives website, they have tons of higher end knives for sale, some are pre-owned and can be had for big discounts, and they also have a layaway option. there are lots of heirloom type knives on that site.

Although they're not my cup of tea, CRKs are classy, and definitely heirloom worthy. A Mnandi, small Seb, or even a TiLock would do well.
I'll also throw in the Spydie Native 5 fluted titanium.

I'll also add that my wife is a stay at home mom, which we decided would be the best choice after our second child was born. We do not have a lot of extra money, so one thing I do to help satisfy my knife craving is trade. If I find I'm not using a knife or no longer enjoy it, I'll trade it for something else I'd like to try.

Good luck to you and your family, sir.

You don't need to spend a lot to get a nice knife. I wouldn't if I knew money was going to be very tight. Look at Moki, Mcusta, and Falkniven. They all have some good stuff.

Props for making a tough decision for your family!

I have several friends who have all had babies within the past 6 months. 2 of the couples have decided that they will live on 1 salary with the mom staying at home. I've watched them struggle through the decision but both couples have been really very positive about their decisions after the fact. My wife and I are considering having our first child in the next year or so, and it's been making me think a lot. Not to say the mom staying home and living on 1 salary is for everybody, but man. It's a decision I applaud. You're putting your kids first dude. That's wonderful.

The only suggestion I have for the next "last" knife is, if you're expecting knife purchases to stop soon, and you literally have a Damascus seb in the mail, set the $400 aside for a month! I have found when I purchase multiple knives or pieces of gear at the same time I actually enjoy each individual piece a whole lot less. Enjoy your new Sebbie, and that will also give you an honest taste of CRK before you drop your last $$$ on a last knife. Then you can stretch the new knife purchases a bit farther and enjoy them separately.

I just recently purchased my first Sebenza (small plain 21) and I honestly have mixed feelings about it. Everything everybody says about CRK is true. Amazing knife. I honestly can say if I had to choose 1 knife to keep out of my collection it would be my small 21. But it's not "sexy" and attention grabbing like some of the other modern folders out there. CRK beauty is in its simplicity. Which sounds like exactly what you're going for, but my point is, just because everybody loves them doesn't mean it will be your grail or chosen hereditary piece. Hope this helps man, keeping your family in my prayers!

Sorry I cant reply to all those who posted. For some reason everytime Im on my ipad it times me out if I take to long posting.

I really appreciate all the encouragement. Im going to hold off until the Seb gets here and see how I like it. If I love it I may just another one. Im really leaning to the Mnandi. It's just a goreous knife. Im going to let this thread drift off but I just wanted to say thanks for the suggestions and encourement. Just another testament to the type of folks on here.

I say you get yourself a sharpener/lanyard-making business rolling 4-8hrs/wk. 75% of profits go to knives
25% to the wife and kids.

Crowd source this at bladeforums, we got your back:)

Best idea yet! Just wish I had the time. :D Tending to my folks and grandmother after work. Maybe in the summer though ;):D

Wow Brett... We have made similar tough decisions before. The LORD has always provided and even blessed. Proud of you. I will be praying for you.

Ok knives...
Yep... CRK Sebenza. I have owned several. Love the small insingo, but not the clip point/drop you are looking for. I love the sheep foot.
The 21 is awesome... but honestly I Really like the Carbon Fiber 25. Lighter, classy... and less scratches on the Ti. If you just can't stand the 25, they make a CF 21. Just a thought.

Also, for the modern, classy, high end pocket folder. I have two others to consider.
1. Graham GMT Stubby Razelcliffe Flipper. Nice and small and flips like a rocket. The pocket clip is ingenious and the blade shape is amazing to me. Again not a clip or drop point.

2. The Stout/Chaves 325 Megalodon. AMAZING knife. Much larger than the small 21, but pocketable. Not sure its tacticool. Can't say enough about this knife. But it is also $500.

Just some thoughts. Can't go wrong with a Chris Reeve Sebenza. Blessings on your family decision and the knife search.
