On Mr. Ernest Emerson

So I meant to post this for awhile now.

I'm a big fan of Emerson knives like most folks here. I don't' believe or see any QC issue stuff that's being debated and I stand by my previous statements- "No FF issue, no QC issues period. They are great knives.

However, I don't like the way Ernest Emerson is treating his customers. He never gave any of the complainers a benefit of doubt or has he ever mentioned or offered to have the knives sent in. Irregardless of whether the those complainers are being fair or unfair to the brand image- he should have offered to correct the issue. Instead he just kept on calling them liars.

I really don't think his tactic is going to work in the long run. He really alienated a lot of customers here. Me included. I never saw any QC issue with his knives, but now I can see deeper bigger issues behind the man running the company. (Whose head is in the clouds)

I'm a customer. When I sent in my knife for repair no one called me a liar?

If I had personally called EKI to express my feelings about said product I really don't think I'd have been called a liar..

though he may be calling some unnamed forumites who've been badmouthing his company liars

Did you really just do a review on a person?

No...he just wasn't satisfied with all the other threads bashing Emerson...he had to start one more.

Small minds concentrate people. Average minds talk consider things. Intelligent folks discuss ideas. I suspect this misguided mindless effort has run it's course.

Unless of course someone needs to be an attention whore and start one more thread bashing Mr. Emerson.

I will say that Mr. Emerson was very professional in the e-mail communications with me regarding the repair on my Combat Karambit, and I only had to pay shipping there, not return.
It also returned to me very stabby and sharp.
I have no issues with the warranty; I think it's fine.:)
I just didn't like the tone of a certain recent thread; it just wasn't cool, and I doubt it advanced things in a positive way.:(

Interesting. What kind of repairs did it require and did you have to pay for sharpening?

It needed a new non-locking liner (it was bent a bit), and required a tip (it shipped with a tip which would skate off of wood; a huge surprise given the pointiness of the Super Karambit I had before).
There was no fee for sharpening it, but it was being sent in for a defect when bought new.
I do not know what fees are involved for sharpening a knife if that's all that's required.
I certainly had no complaint about the tip or edge when I got it back.:)

Gotcha. I plan to send two in for liner issues (A super karambit, posted pics earlier in the "bull" thread and a super CQC7 that has bad vertical bladeplay), but they're users at this point.

That's great to hear stabman.

I don't doubt the warranty or the QC one bit. Maybe he's just tryin to act tough online.

prehaps some folks should get out from behind their computer, enter the real world and MEET The Entire Emerson Team at a knife show.
your opinion would change greatly.
I have nothing negative to say about these folks.
I carry an Emerson , sure, because its a great knife but mainly because the people that stand behind it

EKI has always been first rate with me.
FWIW, the political stuff might back fire a little. Business and politics is not a good combination. I know.

Anyone who dares uttering any blasphemous remark about Mr. Emerson which casts him or his company in a bad light, even if it proves to be accurate will be met with lethal force - I'm the lord thy God.
Clearly, I'll be going straight to hell :)

If I am reading this correctly, the main statement in the original post, point's more toward philosophy of business, rather than quality.
I'm not sure I would buy anything if I actually knew anything about the "Man behind the business" We could start with Henry Ford or Walt Disney. Without getting too political here I just want to ask, how many other business owners as transparent as Mr. Emerson? I'm sure there are a few, but not that many.
Cheers

I would think you're correct. The main problem I see with Mr. Emerson has to do with how he treats some of his customers, but who am I to insult a God.

And that kind of makes my point. As you stated, "How he treats his customers" How many business owners actually dive into the customer service end of things? The front lines if you will. That was my reference to transparency. From what I have seen of him, which is only youtube and such, he seems like a regular guy. Like many people I know. Not all business owners made the best P.R. people, so they would hire people to do for them. I would love to get online with Bill Gates instead of a Tech when my computer goes wonky.
In my opinion, you have to look at the statistics in such matters. Take the amount of people who spend $200.00 on an Emerson, VS. The same amount of people who spend $25000 on a car, give the same number of customer complaints, then see how many actually get to communicate with the actual owner. This could be applied to many different products. I think the favorable ratio would swing heavily toward Mr. Emerson. I think we are talking about value here.
Cheers

Two and a half years later you finally figured out something clever to say? This thread is dead.
