??? on my Cuda Maxx Spearpoint...

I just received my new Cuda Maxx Spearpoint from Roger at Knifeworks.com. I absolutely love this knife, but it has one little problem. The locking part of the frame goes all the way over to the other side, and touches the other side of the frame. This keeps the lock from locking tightly, and allows for some level of blade play.

Anybody else get one like this, and if so, what did you do?

Thanks,

James (Sierra1)

The one I had entirely covered the blade tang but left plenty of room for any wear that might occur and lock up was 100% TIGHT. I do notice that on my clip point the lock engages only about 1/3rd of the blade tang but that is still a lock coverage of .040 and it hasn't offered to slip one time. I would think if it is already all the way over and touching the other liner it needs to go back to Roger and get another one. There is not really a way to fix it as there is nothing there on which to work! I would also guess that you could send it to Camillus and I'm sure they will not quit until you are completely satisfied! This is a GREAT AMERICAN COMPANY!!

If the one you got from me is not right and your having problems with the locking liner. Send it back to me and I will send yours back to Camillus. I will had pick you one out. Give me a call tomorrow and let me know what you decide to do.

James, sending back is the way to go. After playing with several CUDA Maxx and several of Darrel's Maxx's, I would say one of two things is wrong with your knife. 1st, the lock engagement was cut incorrectly, or 2nd, the pivot screw is very loose. You would know easily if the pivot screw were too loose, there would be a lot of lateral play in the blade and there would be next to no resistence when opening the knife. My bet is that the lock engagement wasn't done correctly. Stuff like that will occasionally slip through almost any QC.
