On/Off Topic Help & Identification (lots of pictures)

Does BLO react with plastics? What can I keep this stuff in? How is it with glass? Can I keep it in a red Folgers coffee can? Does it dry (Can I keep it in a glass bowl)?

It will dry out if left to the air. I have kept some in a plastic salsa container with no problem. Sometimes I cut it with mineral spirits. Then I store it in a glass jar. A coffee can should be fine if it has a tight fitting lid. But when it gets low I think it would dry out because of the larger volume of air inside the can.

I've only seen etches on two man saws centered on one side. Example from a Disston catalog page:

Not all saws had an etch and a lot that did have been worn off. If there is enough rust on the saw to cover some or all of an etch carefully remove the rust. Aggressive cleaning will remove an etch. If you can't find an etch on your saw you might get help here. There is a section on saw id to post in.

Good advice right there.

Some people recommend using a grill block on a crosscut to reveal the etch. You might first clean off the majority of the rust with a brass wire cup brush on an angle grinder. The brass wire is gentler on the saw than a steel wire brush.
