Wait, you are missing Teen Mom for this? Forget it then!

I know right? LIKE WHATEVER? :)

Seriously....no, really...Time to make the donuts.
I just spent WAY to much time polishing up 3 knives for handles....I am trying to stay away from my grinder, but I think I will have to marry the 2 schools to feel like I am getting anywhere. Old School hammer and file, and the new school...power tools!
I have 5 ready for a tweak or 2, and then heat treat, I think I need to try using the grinder to help me out on these, and see how I like it.
Not to say I haven't used it up till now, just that I have been hand finishing with stones and wet dry paper..then a final strop or 2.
I have a really nice edge on a certain hidden tang blade I forged...I think it is getting an American Hickory handle with forged bits and leather spacers...It is just to pretty right now.
I tested the edges on all 3, on some dried bamboo I have...first I shave with them, and cut paper, then go after the bamboo like a mad man...if anything happens to the edge at all, I am keeping the knife, or at least its going back in the forge for another quench. These all did fine. Bamboo is pretty hard stuff, so I trust these edges. The smallest hidden tang, I also put in the vice, and tried to break it...I really like 5160, man, its strong stuff.
Guys like Bindlestitch are the reason I am even trying hidden tangs..I honestly don't see how they are any weaker, if you start the tang out at basically edge width.
My personal hidden tang forged leukko, from the pics, is so strong that after heat treat, I put it in the vice and pulled with my whole fat ass into it, my work bench took off the wall, and tools went flying...I thought for sure I could bend it or snap it...I was wrong.
I know even the best knives can be broken, but it is cool to know you would have to go ape s#%t on one to damage it to the point it won't get you out of a jamb.
Some of these current 5 are much thinner. I wanted to try forging my stock down to a thinner knife, and see how they do. I hope they clean up nice, one of them I have my eye on...lol.
I could use another small knife, since I sold most of my fixed blades...

Thanks my old friend.

Gene, great to see ya around a gain. Look forward to seeing more of your knives.

Bryan

Bryan,
Thanks a bunch, not just for the kind words, but for helping me see what my designs would look like, when I didn't have a shop. YOU are a big part of things around here, IMO.
Gene

I'm not one to post on Blade Forums too often, but I can chew the fat with the best of them in the real world, Gene knows this to be true.:very_drunk:

Anyways, speaking as a brother from another mother, I'm just as excited as Gene is to see this endeavor come to life. We have literally burnt the midnight oil for many moons and many brews pondering what it would take to see Gene's and even a little bit of my own visions come to life into a breathable, useful, and functional tool that others can employ in the field.

So my friend, my hat's off to you for laying it on the line and coming back to your adoptive home of Texas to chase your passions.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add, some of you may remember the knife on the left that Gene made and I must say that it is a beast of a knife that will never part my hands and is a hint of great things to come from Gene. Thanks for the gift bro.

Thanks bro,
charliedontsurf is one of my best friends, and he isn't lyin, just last Friday, we sat up late into the night, talking knives....and I have several of his designs in my possession right now, and more than a couple are gonna happen. Which is a good thing, you guys will love a couple, especially you hunters out there, CDS is a big time deer hunter, and his designs show it.
Thanks man
Whooh...time to make some sharp pointy steel.

Weird. I went to edit a couple of typos & got a double post.

GKN - I'm really glad I wandered over from my usual stomping grounds. It's great to see you chasing your dream & I will add myself to the growing list of people that can't wait to see - or get our hands on - your work.
I love the fact that you're back in Texas! It seems like we are starting to get a pretty good number of quality forge knife makers & that is a Very good thing.

Best of luck & if you plan on getting up to Dallas anytime let me know. I'd love to buy you a cup of coffee & shoot the breeze.

Im very excited to see more of your designs Gene, I always thought they looked very useful and purpose driven :) I'll have to keep my eye out on the for sale threads!!

Hey Gene, where are the scandis? Sorry to hear that you moved away from this corner of the world, but I guess I can't complain since I'm spending the majority of my time in Anchorage these days. Good looking knives. How's that machete holding up? The axe is still chopping like a champ!

My friend, all is well, on all fronts. What the hell is your butt is doing in Anchorage is another thread all together. I hope your taking pics for us flat landers.
You take care of your self, and check in from time to time, I might just have a scandi for you sooner than later...

Not a scandi, but from the bench tonight.
