on the job khukuris

Does that talkin' to animals work on serpents? My brother rescued a mean Red-tail Boa. Maybe talking to it would help.

If I disturbed a big old rattler, somehow I don't think I'd be able to do anything but involuntarily squeak for a while, let alone apologize. Matter of fact, I'm not sure I'd even remember to breathe.

I made a bad shot on a deer last week. After searching for several hours, Byron and I went to the nearby hunting club. They had a dog, and came over and helped us find the deer.

After I put it down, I thanked the dog for finding it, and then apologized to the deer for the pain I had put it through.

As far as hunting goes, if we are going to kill off the predators, it is our duty to step in and harvest enough of the prey to keep balance. What makes me sad, is hearing of people killing edible game for mere sport, and disrespecting the animal's sacrifice by not using it.
