On the Road Again with Merle

Nice photos, Joshua! Looks like you and Merle are off to a good start.

Hey Johnny, I can certainly take you off the list if you want, but I will say that I think you would do an excellent job, based on the motorcycle trips and hikes I’ve seen you post about in other threads, and I know we’d all love to see more of your part of England.

As for the timing, we can always wait until it gets closer and I can follow up with you then. It’s a bit tough to estimate, but I’d say it might 6-7 weeks before your spot on the list comes up, which would put it around the end of June.

That said, it is entirely up to you, of course. No worries either way.

(By the way, I tried to send you a PM, but your inbox was full.)

It almost hit 90° here in tropical Minnesota yesterday. 😉😁 Supposed to hover around 70° over the next week, should be lovely.
Thanks I emptied it now.

Merle enjoyed getting familiar with some Florida flowers and trees:

These pics are gorgeous! Please keep sharing your outdoor adventures. The weather service here in Fairbanks is predicting a mix of rain and more snow this weekend  I'm living summer vicariously through Merle!

Welcome to Florida Merle! I have to admit I'm feeling a little "green" with envy seeing all these summery pics. Here at the opposite end of the country we still have deep piles of snow on the ground. I like winter but this one is like a dinner party guest that won't leave
Already waiting on winter to come back here Caleb. But of course, we don't have what you would call winter. 😁

I haven't been able to get about much with Merle in the last couple of days, and I don't want all of the pictures to be my eating habits and daily routines. However, yesterday we had a very unique experience. Our neighbor's large oak tree has been home to a pair of red shouldered hawks for the last two or three years and we've enjoyed watching them--especially when they breed and have fledglings. One of my sons has been praying for the opportunity to "catch and have" his own hawk--despite the fact that we remind him that it is illegal to do so--but yesterday we got the chance to rescue a juvenile that had injured itself (we think it was his head). We carefully collected him and took him to a volunteer who will eventually rehabilitate him (if he survives) and return him to our neighborhood.

Merle thought it was a great experience too:

That's excellent, I hope it ends well for the Hawk. 🤠

That’s really cool. Hope the hawk comes through alright in the end, and that your son got to experience at least some of the excitement he was hoping to get from having his own hawk. 😁

I apologize for the silence, fellows. I've been a bit busy with the end of the semester and year, and so Merle hasn't been out and about much. I've packaged Merle up and will be sending him across the pond to Jack Black, since Charlie said he's not able to take Merle at this time.

I hope Charlie is OK  Thanks Joshua, I'm hoping to take a week off work so that I can show Merle around, maybe we'll even get some sunshine :) Any requests from anyone? :D

In my head:

JB: "Boss, I need to take a week off"
Boss: "Sure, you have time coming. What are you doing on holiday?"
JB: "I'm going to visit several places of interest with a knife named Merle and take pictures of him and post his travels on the internet."
Boss: "....

...

Ok...um, have fun."

I'm not sure how accurate this is, but I'm told that my ancestors "Bradshaw" originally came 400 years ago from a small village of Bradshaw, which was near Bolton on the north-west side of Manchester. Have you ever been through that area? I was told there are ruins there of Castle Bradshaw. I was hoping some day to make a trip to see that part of England.

Looking forward to the activities that Merle will get to experience with you!
