On The Trail – Lakeside Hike

A cold front pushed in overnight, moving the rainy skies out of the area.

A strong cold wind whipped down from out of the North West.

Some patches of blue started to appear between the fast moving clouds.

I traveled down into a deep river valley to hike along a long narrow lake.

The steep valley and its adjoining high ridge was once the location of one of the largest American Indian settlements in this area,

...it was known as Indian Valley and Indian Ridge.

The narrow river valley has been dammed in this area and is now part of a long lake.

Along this lakes shore there is a section of trail that traverses the sloping terrain and follows the waters edge.

Nestled deep in this valley I know my journey will be out of the worst of the cutting wind,

...and that I might be lucky enough to feel the suns warming rays.

As we hike back down to the trail head most of the blue skies have disappeared,

...but the memory of this beautiful morning lives on in my memory.

It was a great day to be On The Trail.

Excellent pictures Mike - you've got some beautiful lighting contrast there between the sky and hills. I love these threads!

Great pics. Love the pics of the Lake. Makes me want to get out and go fishing more and more. Hopefully this weekend.

Great pics again Mike, I especially love the first one with the blue skys just appearing !!!

Great stuff buddy !!!!

Thats a great hike there.. I realy like the pic of the rocky wall. It must be awsome out there in the sprint time. We expect lots of spring pics as well.

Nice pictures - thanks for sharing them with us. I guess that's part of an established trail system? I noticed blue blazes in a couple of pictures.

Yes Doc, it is part of a well established Trail System,

...well at least part of my hike along the lake was on that trail.

Connecticut has quite a system of Blue Blazed trails.

Out of respect for the White Blazed AT, we use blue for all our main trails.
