I was curious if there was ever a Busse Combat page on wikipedia. And I thought that this would be a good place to ask. There is one for Strider knives... Thanks!

Get to it! Once you get it started I'm sure plenty of folks here will pile on to correct every detail ;)

I thought about this idea not too long ago. With the amount of knowledge here, Busse Combat could have one heckuva Wikipedia page.

I was also wondering the other day if anyone has created a Busse time-line. That is... which production versions were coming out in what years? This might be a cool feature of the Wikipedia page if it gets up and running.

should i let it be auto-deleted? can somebody skilled in wikipedia make this? thank you!

Yeah, if you don't put up any information as to the significance of the entry, it will get auto-deleted pretty quickly.

If the next attempt is to stay up, it'll need to say something about the significance of Busse Combat. Things like...

- innovative practices and designs
- influences on knife design and on other makers
- contribution of a proprietary steel type
- recognizable and devoted following in the knife world

To avoid simply being read as advertisement, these ideas would need to be backed up with source materials (links) on the web.

Also, the aforementioned history (time-line) would provide more of a sense of history and less of a sense of advertising.

thanks Guyon, i dont know how to cite, or to make that box beside the title that has a picture and dates etc. If somebody could re-do it, that would be great!

Some user named Bielle has already nominated for speedy deletion due to advertising.

I formally contested this nomination (you have to add a tag to the entry), but the entry is going to have to be much more substantial in order to stay the course.

It would likely need well-developed sections such as:

History
Innovations
Influences
Fan Base

I notice Spyderco, Benchmade, Strider, etc. have Wikipedia entries. Take a look at their articles.

Edited: While I was making the contestation, someone put up material directly from the Busse website. This copying of another website actually is not allowed as the verbatim text is not public domain. That history will have to be changed unless Jerry signs off on it.

Here's a plan... write sections of it here in the forum, get people to contribute to it and edit for you. When you have enough sections to have a good sized wiki entry, create the page and cut and paste into it. That way you're writing speed won't cause people to immediately shoot the page down. You'll have lots of content right away. You could load a few pics into the pic hosting area prior to putting up the article so that you can link to them quickly.

just my .02CDN

I might do that. thank you for the 2.1 cents USD :D

ok, how does Busse Combat affect the cutlery industry?

What I just did will stave off a speedy deletion. Let's create a cool article; any dodo can add to the content. Just click on "edit this page" and add away. References of course are going to be an issue, as verifiability is a major tenet of the site. Articles have to cite reliable sources (none yet), contain no original research, and must maintain a neutral point of view. Its easy to defend the validity of this page, it just needs content.

I think you're right that it will keep the hounds at bay for a bit. Certainly, the page will stand if content is added in a judicious fashion.

One thing to look for are actual publications that focus on Busse knives. They don't have to be electronic, but linking does help.

I could be in trouble over there because I just reverted the page after an administrator added a copyright infringement tag on it. I was supposed to "discuss" why it's public domain content, but I just reverted the page. Anyone know specifically any articles I could draw information from that's from 3rd party sources? Like one's I can access online?

you could draw it from here, and possibly blade magazine. any of the old review articles may be open game.

busse never really advertises and keeps their clientelle close, so theres really not much (compared to other companies) out there third party wise...

edit: busse doesn't advertise very much that is. they do advertise.

I don't agree with the copyright tag, I didn't copy verbatim what the site said, and cited it in the article. I misunderstood the wiki principle, people aren't supposed to add to articles, they are supposed to submit complete articles- I guess. I don't think Jerry would sue if I said that INFI was a proprietary heat treatment process of Busse Combat.
If its not spam, blatant advertising (i really did suppress my urge to call INFI awesome and stay un-biased) or copyright infringement, how else can it be deleted now?
