Once more... Swivel Knives

Yep, agreed. Looking at one online, before I got there it would be either over sharpened or used for thirty something years. :p

Barry King is the way to go. I have no idea why you need a hollow ground blade. Get a thin blade for thin cuts and a thicker blade for thick cuts.

Or practice with that one blade that has been around for decades to do both.

Yes, a quote from an old mentor of mine when he was approached with a similar dilemma. :p

I like options. I agree that anything other than what is available for the BK knife is probably totally unnecessary, but I still like to play around. My luck, I'd take a class and the instructor would shed light on exactly why the HG is desirable.

I think I'm going to go with the black knife I linked to above. I kinda have a thing for the Japanese tools. Probably go with a BK blade though.

BK website says all their blades are hg. I went and looked at a couple of our blades really closely because I was feeling that just the shaft not the edge was hg. I was wrong the hg does extend into the edge. The corners are a hair and change thicker than the middle of the edge due to the hg. Theye only been sharpened a couple of times so its not like they are really worn and they get used alot.

I do not want to beat this subject to death……but……. even if the hollow grind does extend far enough down to affect the sharpened edge, my question is what part of the blade does the work??????? The two ends get all the action and not the center of the blade. I rest my opinion.

Paul

I agree 200 percent the corners do the work and you'd have to really really look at it critically to see any difference. The knife maker in me wonders why is all. I'm guessing has more to do with production than anything.

Okay, after reading a million posts on the topic my conclusion is that the (vertical remember) HG is simply to aid in sharpening, although it does have minor effects on being able to see the work/basic preference, etc.

The grind does not affect the longevity of the blade.

BK does indeed use HG.

An hour of reading= well maybe BK is the way to go. Sure do like the look of that black knife though. :)

Saddle that pony and trot on up here and play with one of ours first before ya order if ya want.

Oh I'll definitely take you up on that. The drive is really pleasant, except for the GPS throwing me about 10 curveballs. Took that poor minivan off roading a couple of times, big pools of water on the way out. Gun it and hope for the best. :D

Yeah, go on and use that racing pony of yours. Then you can also tell me how those new knives horsewright currently has in stock look like in person.

The truck? I just sold it. :( :( :(

500hp and lowered it would have been a nightmare. Hard to keep it going straight on the pavement let alone mud. :D

The bike would have been difficult too. Both feet near the ground in any case.

Believe it or not, the lowly minivan did me proud. Just butt ugly.

I'm hoping to take a better set of pictures next time. Video too. Dave, you better work on your script. :D

Yeah 58 closed right behind you that day, a big mud slide. Those are the knives that were part way done when you were here.

They look awesome (the knives). And I would always be interested in Anthony's hands on experience. As for the truck... Awwwh, that thing looked so cool. Minivan? A team minivan or scooby doo or soccer mum? Though I have been told that soccer mums switched to SUVs .

Thanks man, it was my dream truck, but I'm all old now and don't get to the track (Famosa for Dave) much. I wasn't aware that there were different minivans. Mine (well, my wife's) is just a frumpy piece of yuck. I totalled the new one I bought her a couple of years ago. That thing was actually very pleasant.

I really want to have the Armitage burnisher for next time I go over. They have kinda been taking their time, but I'm no cheetah myself lately.

Famosa is also where the cattle sale is I sell my cattle at.

I didn't know that. As far as I knew it was just the racetrack with a convenient auto parts store nearby for when the NHRA gets silly. Which is like every single inspection, God bless em.

What happens to the hides of the cattle you sell?

The track is on the east side of 99 the sale yard is on the west. Don't know we sell calves for the most part so they're still using em for a while.

Hey Omega, I looked at the website and the black blade you are referring to. I thought you were referring to "hollow ground" as in a configuration like a hollow ground knife blade. I have 4 different blades for my Barry King swivel knives. They are all hollow ground.
