One Becker for everything

I still haven't decided on what Becker to get yet. I used to like the 2, now it's the 10 and the 5.

So I pose a question,

What would be your one Becker to choose if you only had one option?

When I get one, it will be an all around knife for hiking, camping and light camps work.

Thanks!

Post pics as well, I'm a sucker for Becker pics lately.

For a one Becker to rule them all in a camp scenario.

Solo knife: It would be a 5.

If I had a small knife to pair with it: a 4 and a mora/svord/opinel.

Will add photos when I'm home from work.

There are multiple ways to look at this

Single knife that has to do everything? - bk9

You have other knives for other tasks but only want 1 Becker? I would pick a bk2 or a bk16 (either one should set the addiction in place haha)

Just camping and hiking? - bk15 could do well considering food prep will be a priority but Small enough for hiking the

If I could absolutely only have one Becker, it would be the NINE. It's big enough to do most jobs and with a lanyard you can slide up over your forearm to hold the weight of the handle area, you can choke up toward the tip for finer work. Now if I could sneak in my favorite, it would be the 16, it's only drawback is it can't do some of the big things you might ask of it in a "one knife situation".

When you camp, do you process much wood? If yes, then 9 (runner-up is the 5). If no, then 16 (almost tied is the 15).

I do a bit. Not to much tho. I do have a saw as well. Is the 9 with the weight if I have other tools?

The 5 is growing on me more and more lately

My choice would be the 16, personally. I wouldn't want to hike with my 4 or one of the other large Beckers. As nice as the larger ones are, for me that's not practical. Plus, the 16 is good at most every task.

I would not want to carry a 9 or 4 for an extended hike, though both would be great around camp. My vote is for a 15 or 16. Perfect size for belt carry on a hike. I have batoned with my 16 plenty of times. Just be smart about it and don't try to process anything massive. It's nimble enough for carving and decent for food prep.

My perfect would be the 10 or the 16. I graduated from the 2 to the 10 for my TEOTWAWKI blade.
I love the 9, but would have to pair it with something smaller.

Well let's consider this.. What if you carry other items to help with wood work? If you prefer a folding saw like me, then 16 all the way. Still plenty of room to baton (if you like to baton) and comfort for all the small tasks we find ourselves doing. In a "one blade" scenario, I'd imagine one to find ways to use your environmental situation to best help your camping/ survival go better. In a survival situation, you may have a couple weeks (if your unlucky) before you reach cement. So Bushcraft and Campcraft are your best allies.
A 16 will help you complete a bush-made tools with better efficiency.

If I could only keep 1 for an all around knife to do everything it would be my bk2. However a 2 knife option with a bk9 paired with a bk11, 14, or 16 would be better suited for my needs. You could carry em in a piggyback style sheath.

The one which was actually designed to do it all. Jack of all trades, BK-7. It does everything well enough without being too small or too big.

I went on this same journey for a one Becker solution when I first came to this forum. I decided on a custom bk16, parked and with a squared spine for use with a Ferro rod. It really is all the knife I could ever NEED.

But while waiting on that one to get customized, I got a 15 which will do pretty much what a 16 will do except it isn't great at doing a lot of batoning. And a 5 which is a compromise between the 9 and 15. Super slicey, but has the same issues as the 15 with batoning. And a 9 which is its own thing but it's going to ride in your pack and only shine over the 16 if you're processing enough wood to justify it. My 16 is on my belt when I go into the woods. I might take my 9, but only if I expect to use it.

The 16 is a super blade. since it's FFG, it competes well with the 15 for sliciness, which only gets the edge due to the swedge. I much prefer the length and tip location of the 16. It's a superb knife. Very understated, but don't let that fool you.

Well, I once took my 17 with me for one week of hiking. No other knife. The 17 did everything I asked without any complaints :) Food processing, batoning, feathersticks, etc. I had a folding saw with me, so there was no need for chopping...:)

One knife to rule them all??? For the tasks you have mentioned I would go with the 16. If you want to hack through brush, step up to something a little longer and heavier (7 or 9) and if you want to process a lot of wood, buy an axe.

BK4. Not too heavy, very nimble for precise work, chops and batons really well, looks cool.
