Next up is a handmade custom that I made. A lot of guys give me flak for saying that I made a custom since the blade comes from Snake River Knives in Idaho (the guys that make the aftermarket damascus BM Skirmish blade). However, THEY HANDMADE THE BLADE! So it is still completely custom, and I do give them credit for the blade. In addition, I paid extra money to buy the highest quality solid oak and glass locking display case I could find. The grain on the side of the case looks great and adds a lot of character to the knife. It is also handmade, and the fit and finish on the case simply astounded me. Anywho, here are the details and photos of the knife:

BLADE: Handmade and Handground Snake River Valley Damascus
LENGTH: Cutting Edge- 4 3/8", Overall Length- 8.5"
HANDLE: Dyed 15,000 year old Genuine Wooly Mammoth Tooth and Exotic Bocote. It also has two abalone and one partial pearl dot inlayed in thumb rest
GUARD AND POMMEL: Also Wooly Mammoth Tooth

There are some natural cracks and indentations in the mammoth tooth that I left to show the character of the material. There is also a little bit of green polish that can barely be seen in the photos that I will remove before shipment. This knife is ergonomically designed to perfectly fit a left-handed person with a normal to small sized hand. It still fits in the right hand, just not quite as perfectly. If you have large hands, your hand may go over the pommel. This is not a problem is this is simply a collectible, but I still mention it anyways. Most knives do not have this problem because they do not have such aggressive finger grooves and ergonomics. However, I seek to be different and optimal in my design. I actually created this to perfectly fit my left-handed father, so I guess that's just an extra piece of information for you. The photos are included in the next section.

God Bless,
Richard

By the way, I finally got my forge up and running, and got my first blade hardended and tempered yesterday. It was an amazing feeling going through all the steps and coming out with a nice blade! Up to bright orange (~1,600 for 6 minutes), quench in room temp canola oil, immediately temper at 350 for 2 hours twice with a room cool after each. I used a chunk of 15N20 sawblade steel and cut out a footlong japanese-style tanto. I got really thin 1/10" thick steel to do a Warren Thomas-type blade. I actually thought about doing something like this before I ever heard of the guy, so I was upset to hear that I wasn't a pioneer :) . I have 1/5" thick carbon fiber on one side going all the way from the handle up the blade. Only about 1/3" of the steel can be see at the edge looking at the carbon fiber face of the blade. The other side has exotic bocote with a really cool beatup look for the handle, and the blade is bare. I am probably going to chemical color the wood side to get some cool colors. So the carbon fiber side looks really futuristic, and the wood side looks weathered and has a hippie-nature-type vibe (for some reason I like doing fixed-blades that are polar opposites for each side). It also has two brass mosaic pins in the handle. It is super light, and really strong. I don't have any way to RC test it right now, but so far it has shaved off the top of a steak knife blade, been driven full force into a very hard piece of wood with the tip and edge multiple times, cut an indentation into a pair of steel pliers, and been hit edge first against the rim of my large aluminum quenching bucket (denting it). Amazingly, the edge is still absolutely perfect. I can't wait until it's finished to show you guys. By the way, I know this is considered chatter, but I added it to the bottom of this post so I didn't bump the thread or anything. If this is still not allowed, please someone tell me so I can avoid any trouble. Any responses please use PM or email (rmbobadilla@liberty.edu).

God Bless,
Richard

Aw man...that stinks. Apparently I've had so many people downloading my pictures of knives from Photobucket that my bandwidth limit (25GB) was exceeded. So I had to do a trialpay thing and donate $15 to the USO and it says it takes about a day to process, and then I'll have Photobucket Pro and the photos should show up. Whew! So I'll post when it's working. Also, I managed to finish the carbon fiber tanto I was talking about. I'll post a notice here and a link to a thread that I'll put in the custom section. It's called the "ying yang" tanto because each side is a polar opposite of the other, but at the same time each side is necessary and completes the other (like a ying yang). Even the tang is split down the middle between rough and smooth, colored and uncolored :D . The one side is solid carbon fiber all the way to the tip of the blade, and the edge and everything is mirror polished and has a rainbow color to it (chemically, not heat colored, so the RC is still 58-59 or so). The other side is left very rough, beat up, and natural. When you flip the knife over it looks like a completely different knife. It looks wicked. So I'll have photos of that by tonight or tomorrow as well. Sorry for the delay. I can't believe I've used 25GB of bandwidth already, lol.

God Bless,
Richard
