One Blade/One Awl No more no less

Hi Dogstar,

The awl placed midway on the rear of the handle on the SAK is not in the best position (a PITA-IMHO), having the awl on the end of the handle makes it far more useful.

I use it for a bunch of stuff I wouldn't dare use my knife for.:D

So far I keep bouncing back & forth between the HJ6 & the #54.I'd really like to find one with the knife & awl on opposing ends though.
 
I don't know much about the custom/modified SAK market but I wonder if it might be possible to get an alox Pioneer with the screwdrivers removed leaving just the blade and awl. They are at opposite ends of the knife but share the same spring.

AAAACK! I been readin that title for a couple of days now. Every time I do, that Boot Hill epitaph rings in my head:

HERE LIES LESTER MOORE
FOUR SLUGS FROM A 44.
NO LES NO MORE ...
 
I seem to find a use for my awl/punch on my SAK all the time, and it is a PITA because it protrudes from the middle of the knife, which reduces its reach and makes using it more awkward.
So, I recently picked up the GEC #57 Wrangler in stag and a Case Stockman w/ punch in amber bone in order to compare the different awl designs.
Both knives have good F+F, a few tiny gaps, some blade rubbing on the case, and the GEC is less than sharp as usual, but I can fix that in no time. The awl was my main interest, and although both are useful, the GEC Wrangler's awl is not nearly as pointy and sharp as the Case. I never thought I'd prefer a newer Case over any GEC, but at 1/3 the price, the Case has really impressed me.
 
HuntBomb, good to know about the #57, I bought my Case 6318pu about a month before the release of the wrangler, I bought the Moore Maker a few years ago because of the awl/punch, way more satisfied with the Case quality and price. I will stand with what I said earlier in this thread and other post about the Vic Farmer having the best one.

If you wouldn't mind me asking, what makes the Vic's the best? (I have a Pioneer harvester and I adore the awl on it, but I want to pick up the Case you have in the pic as well; I just thought I would ask your opinion!)

If I am derailing this thread, I will be more than happy to delete this post.
