ive seen referrences to the "one brick forge". what and how does it work? do you just lay the knife on the brick and heat it up? how would you control the temp?

You take a soft firebrick and hollow it out, putting a hole in one end for the opening, and a hole in the side for the torch to fire into. Some people hollow through all the way to the other end and cap it off with a 2nd brick they can remove to allow longer pieces through. That becomes a 2 brick forge really, but the difference is negligible.

I have been using this set up for about a year. I only work with small blades so it is great for me. As for Temp control I do mine just through guessing and controlling the torch.

go here for a picture of one. One Brink Forge

And for the bricks if you can not find them anywhere look here. Fire Bricks

I'm one brick short of a full forge :) (somebody was going to say that and I wanted to be first)
