One Busse or 2-3 RAT's?

they are all good knives, this is hardly the place for an arguement over who makes the best knife. Busse's are expensive as well all know, the plus is that you can flip it down the road if you grow tired of it and get your money out of it, RATs on the other hand you don't spend that much, definitely a great knife, especially for the money. This new Scrapyard knife that is going to be released is also a great knife for the money, you will just have to wait for it.

Perhaps not TRYING to spread misinformation, but it's misinformation all the same - right at this moment, there are three Busse blades available to purchase, and they will be shipped to you in a few days. Sometime later this week, there will be another blade available to purchase, and it won't sell out in ten minutes.

OF COURSE Busse blades are harder to get than RAT blades (and they cost a whole lot more, too!). I just don't see any need to exaggerate exactly how hard they are to come by.

Right at the moment, there are 24 different RAT models, I would say at least 80% of those are available for immediate purchace and will be shipped to you in a few days, and multiple of them.

I could most likely order a few thousand RAT's and have them at my door in less than a week.

Your three available Busse family blades frankly don't compete as far as availability is concerned.

Busse makes a great knife, great steel, great family ethic, amazing aftermarket, staggering array of choices, great resale value, great warranty.....on and on and on.

One thing they don't have is availability.;)

I'm not saying they compete. I'm saying the 10 minute claim is hyperbole. That very well may have been true in the past, but it's not now - Busse keeps a steady stream of knives in the store, and the Scrap Yard business model has completely changed. Swamp Rat? Well they don't seem to release knives all that often anymore, which is a shame.

Your argument, shotgunner, is completely valid, and DEAD ON, I might add - RAT knives are easy to get, they are at a great price point, and you don't have to jump through hoops to get them.

I'm just saying those hoops aren't quite as bad as they are being made out to be.

LOL , this is still going... I MEANT to say when I ordered but I was not going to edit so nobody thinks I was hiding anything... The DF last year Did in fact sell out in 10 minutes.that can be proven...but Swamp rats inactivity is why I sold all my SRKW blades their last offering the HC was a good overall design but it fail victim to being made from 154cm something I do not like so it to when down the road...I love the Fact Both Brand are US made products and back by a Great warranty.

Honestly mustardman, I don't want you to feel as though your being ganged up on here so I'm dropping out of this disscussion.

The OP was interested in the Badger Attack, as far as I can find, that model isn't available at the present time so all our points are moot.

Time will tell if Tony was right with his 10 min. comment when the next run of BA come out and if they sell out in ten minutes.

Mustardman is more than welcome here and I am not going to mention anything again on this thread unless some one ask me...

Yeah I'm not a big fan of 154 either, and doubt I will be buying any knives made from it. Too dang hard to sharpen.

Marketing philosophies aside, there's Badger Attacks available now on the for sale subforums. You'll have to find them yourself though. It's a good idea to keep up to date with the sales forums as there's a lot of good deals sprinkled in with the usual traffic. The best deals are time limited too. Someone needs cash in a hurry and when his need ends, they usualy withdraw the knives if they weren't purchased.

If you want something special, use the knives wanted subforum for posting requests. Everyone simply runs out of space for their collection eventually.

For ScotchLeaf who opened this thread. If your heart is set on a Badger Attack, there are 2 open sale threads on BladeForums now that have Badger Attack's for sale. The prices are 360.00 & 370.00, and links are below.

But as others have already said, if you want bang for the buck go with Rat Cutlery and the RC lineup. You can easily get 3-4 blades for the price of one Badger Attack. Those 3-4 would cover all your bases.

Sometime this week, Scrap Yard will be releasing the Scrapper 5

There's an interesting recurve edge hiding in that knife if you're into grinding. ;)
(Sorry for the rough edges.)

Another thing to remember is that Busse and RAT target different audiences.
RAT is going for the guy who wants a working knife, at a working man's price, and is tired of having to buy crap knives that won't take an edge, won't hold an edge, chip, roll or break if you fart near them, and have crappy sheaths. Basically take everything that sucks about affordable knives, do the opposite and you have RAT Cutlery. As much as it shocks me, people even whine about the RAT prices. Yeah, they cost more than a Ka-Bar or the big O, but for that price you probably won't ever have to replace it, and if you do, you won't have to pay for it.

Busse targets the collectors, investors, and high-end users.
So, unless you are one of the very few who are likely to need to use their knife to punch through steel or concrete, pry open a bunker, or some odd thing, you're buying it to flip later for more than you paid, or you wanna. Most buy them because they wanna.

So I guess, thinking in terms of availability, if there's a Busse you REALLY want that's available and you can afford it, buy it now, the RATs will be here tomorrow, too.

I was going to say "Buy both" but if money is a problem like it is for me, I'd go with the RC knife now and a Busse later if you still want it. Both are good brands and IMO you can't go wrong with either.

Here's a thread with some info on the BATAC I posted a while back, look down to post #7

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=604523&highlight=batac

I think it depends a lot on what you plan to do with the knife, as I mentioned in this post, in my opinion the BATAC wasn't suited for this particular task.

I've got lots of Busses and they are great knives, personally I prefer their smaller designs like the Active Duty and Game Warden. I've just picked up a SAR5, this design looks like it holds a lot of promise, and about as big as I will ever carry.

RC knives are definitely great value, have a second-to-none warranty, and are practically bombproof.
