One Busse to rule them all ?

Maybe. Arguable, certainly. I've got at least a few of every type of Battle Mistress ... and yet I still prefer the SHBM to the BM-e or the ZTBM.

In all fairness I have never held a SHBM. It does appear to be a sort of hybrid between a BM-E and a FBM.

The points I would argue for a BM-E would be:

-Lighter weight
-Compact design
-Proven performance
-The "less is more" design concept. There really is nothing you could take away from the BM-E design to make it more efficient. Conversely, there are design features of the SHBM that could be eliminated without affecting performance.

Had the ABALE, and it didn't do it for me. In a small knife, I'd say the SHBA is it, but I already have that.

In the medium range, the sabre SFNO is pretty perfect. Got that, though, so...

In the chopper category, I learned today that the EU handle is best for me. My Mojo is about .22, and it's VERY fast, but I would like to see more heft. In that case, my ONE would be a satin .25-.27" Mr. OR Uncle MOFO (sabre ground) with black snake or green linen micarta grooved slabs. THAT would be nice.

This One!!

(Actually mine is double cut - but in lue of finding a pic - I snatched this one - but mine is just like it and there is nothing else that can compaire! )

If one only, then my new SAR-4.
Perfect balance of size and ability!

I would go for the SAR4 as well. Bigger blades are useless for 99% of the cutting/slicing tasks, although they are big fun to use to bring down entire forests. After having seen the mod as done by "Klar" (great job), I am considering to modify my SAR4 as well.

HHFSH: just a little beefier than the NMSFNO, roughly the same blade shape but a much more comfortable handle.

Thanks,

D-R

I own a NMSFNO, which I love very much. However, in the spirit of answering your question, a CGFBM would be the one that I would want the most. When I go hiking/camping, I like having a knife the can chop as well or better than a machete but without being as cumbersome as a machete. Paired with a small fixed blade, this makes for the best combination IMHO.

I just saw one of these on Ebay.... Like 1200 bones!!

Good points all.

My reply:

1) The SHBM's weight, for me, is pretty close to perfect. A little more weight in a chopper is not a sin.;)
2) I need a little more length in a chopper, as I never know when I might want to chop something ... a little bigger.
3) Both the SHBM and the BM-e have proven performance.
4) This is an interesting point. There are a few SHBM features that could go ... or Jerry would not have moved on in his search. And, there's that dreaded "pinkie bite" that affects so many folks.

Sigh. Between the BM-e and the SHBM, it's probably a personal thing.

Or you could take my solution. Get both.:D

If I could only have one it would be the Skinny ASH. It's the perfect camp knife.

I'm gonna agree with sleeve. I know its anti Busse to say so, but I have plenty of other tools that can handle chopping more effectively. I love my Skinny Ash1. Perfect camp/hunting knife. Still pretty hefty for chopping too.

Of the Busses I own -- the ASH-1 LE. Great balance, weight, and comfortable grip.

Other contenders:
SFNO-LE: Favorite blade but handle/grip is less comfortable/secure
ASH-1: Great in hand, but not as versatile as the LE
Skinny ASH: Best price performer
SJTAC: Great blade shape, TAC handle is nice but prefer Fusion

Don't own some of the others you've all mentioned.

John
