I stopped showing up here for a while, stopped keeping up on the newest Spydercos, stopped looking at knife catalogs, sold off most my collection, put the rest away in drawers until I need to use them, and have been carrying the same knife for a few months now. Just a beat to hell Spyderco Pacific Salt that has a real ugly blade from me taking it flat to the stone to thin out the edge.

*shrug*

It's light, it's always there, always sharp, always cuts what needs cut. I've never felt so happy about my knives. I'm so glad the days of staring at 8 different knives, deciding which 2 or 3 I feel like carrying that day, are over. It's no longer "What do I feel like carrying today,?" but rather "Knife? Keys? Wallet? PHone? Good to go."

Still working on applying this type of simplicity to other parts of my life though :D

I actually enjoy selecting which knife I'm going to carry for the day. To each his own.

I edc 2 knives (3 if you count my swiss key). One is always a VIC RAMBLER. The other, I get to choose between 2; both 3.5" blade assisted openers. One I am working on modifying, and the other I have mod'ed as much as I plan to.

I like that!

I somewhat int he same boat as you Vivi. I'm not down to one EDC or ever plan to, but the daily carry is a chinook3, vic farmer and/or leatherman wave.

Something about that combo has stopped any urge of getting a new knife or replacing any of these. I agree, its a good feeling!

I also like to see character build up on my knives over years and years of use. The longer I have and heavly use the more valuable they are to me.

I also cut down my collection to two or three knives. I had a recurrent, nagging thought that a bunch of knives sitting on my shelf is wasted money.

When considering a purchase, I ask myself if I want to own and use the knife or simply handle it. Usually I just want to handle it (I'm curious...like a cat). Realizing that has saved me a lot of money.

I totally agree, one knife at a time.

i pretty much agree. i've never gotten into the whole "EDC rotation". my edc will change from time to time, i often carry a "secondary" knife, and i've been known to have an on duty and an off duty knife, but for the most part - the knife i carry is the knife i carry and that's that. it's funny cause i broke my sheath and started carrying a folder, i got startled and immediately reached behind my strongside hip for my fixed and it wasn't where it had been for the last year or so :(

I used to be the one with like 7 shave brushes, then down to one, and now, I have two. A large one and a medium sized one, the latter being more for travel. I also thought having too many is like wasted money, and same with colognes. I have 5 and 2 have backup bottles.

I'm right there with ya. I guess I never got into the whole collecting mentality with anything hobby wise that I got into.

I have one folder and two fixed blades. If I do buy a knife it's only to replace one that I don't use. Same with guns. I have one and one only. The only other one I want is north of 2000 dollars.

I guess I like things that I use...and frankly speaking, I have no use in owning several types of some things, knives included.

FWIW, I have a DDR HTMGH2 in bowie now and a Bill Coye Ridgeback. I previously owned a Spyderco Street Beat, but gave that one to a close friend of mine who became fixated with it. The only other knives I may get in the future would be a Burger Knives LEXK and a Tom Krein TK4 bowie. At that point I'd probably sell the Ridgeback or give it away. The DDR I cannot part with since it was my first somewhat custom knife.

As far as the 2k gun, I want an STI Eagle 6.0 with full length dust cover.

ive kinda done the same thing...my vic cadet and CF military are always in my pocket no questions asked...unless i need to carry a beater knife(cqc-7)

I kind of enjoy having the options. One day it's a slip joint, the next maybe a galyean pro series then the next day maybe my les george esr...You get the point. There are periods of time I do gravitate towards one knife and the more I carry it the more it grows on me so I see where you're coming from.

I see both sides of it, and have thought many times of thinning the herd down to just a bare minimum of knives.

And then I come to my senses!

One can be happy in whatever their circumstances - 300 knives, or just one. Whatever floats one's boat.

I really enjoy having options too. It's a great time to be a knife enthusiast. So many new steels and great designs are popping up (the last 3 years). Sure, I could settle for carrying a Spyderco Military, Delica 4, and a serrated Paramilitary - but I enjoy using other models as well.

I was the same way about computer stuff. I kept up on everything all the time. Then I just got a laptop, and none of that stuff mattered anymore. I don't even know what the newest processor core is.

If I could find a be-all-end-all knife, then maybe I'd give up too. But I love knives way too much :o

I agree with you. I've stopped buying knives. I still have a bunch laying around here, and I still have trouble settling on just one, but I've at least realized that constantly buying knives that just sit around is just not something I want to do.

I guess I just realized that while it's fun checking out new models, I don't care if X lock might be stronger or X blade steel holds an edge longer. I found something that has met my needs 100% and I enjoy the simplicity of relying on that one particular knife. I look back at photos I have of when I owned over 40 Spydercos and I'm glad I don't anymore. I hope someone is out there using them, like I use my Salt. Drawers full of knives just don't do anything for me, and I don't require a rotating stock of knives do accomplish my daily cutting needs. I just find this approach refreshing, as opposed to what I did for the past couple of years :p

More power to those that like collecting though :D
