Carrying bags/packs in my proposed inventory wasn’t something I’d considered. I may have to add satchels, cross-body sling bags, and backpacks to my list. I’m a bag junkie myself
My bags have bags. Lol! I find them too convenient to be able to reach in my satchel and pull out the one I need, whether it’s power cords and extra batteries, meds, or a small toolkit.Gearheads are attracted to bags, whether they EDC them or not. Put your stuff at home in bags, put bags in your car, put bags in your luggage when you travel, etc. Of course a lot of us do carry messenger bags or satchels to work. I have a small zipper bag that I have loaded with spare aspirin, ink pens, business cards, nail clippers, etc. that I throw into my suitcae whenever I travel. I was backpacking long ago when stuff sacks were popular for organizing your backpack. I still use one or two when I travel to keep little stuff like spare light, cellphone charge cable, etc. in one place in my suitcase.
Beside the knife & towel, the one essential thing I have always on me are a pair of good shoes.
You never know when you need to get home (or anywhere) and your car is not available. (Parked in, broken or else)
These shoes must be sturdy and already broken in.
They need to be capable of bringing me home in every weather and not cause my feet any pain even on longer walks.
Even if you work in an white collar environment, there are shoes that look elegant enough and still be capable of doing the above.
I agree. The ability to start a fire can quite literally be the difference between life and death. I plan to carry a selection of pocket-sized fire-starting implements.I don’t smoke, but I think a necessary piece of gear is a lighter...it sucks to be cold lol and a warm fire can save your life.
A good sleeping bag is worth it’s weight in gold.Since our power just came back on after being off since noon Monday, I might add a good sleeping bag. It enabled me to hunker down and guard my stuff!

Agree with this, but it’s not quite in the realm of EDC gear that I’m trying to feel out. ;-)That's a fact! And exactly what I told my son.

No doubt! I keep Mylar blankets (enough for each seat in the vehicle) in our Subarus. I want to upgrade them to the Mylar emergency bivy sacks.Yeah but it would be a good idea to have one in your car trunk or somewhere. It can save your life.

I can't relate to beanies, they aren't comfortable to me. In fact I never wore a hat unless it was so cold that I really needed one. But now I have a little less hair and sometimes spend a lot of time outside in the sun so I need a hat for sun protection. A baseball cap would shield my eyes and the top of my head but I want to protect my ears and neck. I have a lot of baseball caps that I've been given but rarely wear them. I'm thinking of something like a Tilley hat. I don't want to order a hat online because to me a hat needs to fit just right. I managed to find a cheap hat that fit me at an Academy Surplus store and it performs the function just fine, but I would like to have a better hat someday.
