Ok, I've been wanting to start this thread for a while and, even though this sort of thing has been done before, I think it's none-the-worse for wear. So, if you could only have one fixed blade and one folder, what would they be?
My choices:
from my current stock-
Greco X-Plorer
Benchmade Griptillian D2

From what I imagine owning-
Swamprat Battle Rat
Scott Cook Lochsa

What are y'all's choices? Remember, only ONE of each! :D

Anything by Bob Loveless and Ray Appleton. I could either retire, or buy all the other knives I want if I sold those :D

A benchmade auto Stryker in spear point. As far as a fixed blade goes, I'd have to say.......a Blackjack Grunt.

Fixed would be my Dozier Yukon Pro Skinner and Folding my Stars and Stripes Small Sebbie.

BTW this is my formal coming out as a Sebenza owner. I've had it a couple of weeks and love it. I won't bore you with the reasons why. Please feel free to let me know I'm a genius or a doofus for buying one. :D

Bruce

P.S. I'm carrying my BM705 today so it doesn't get upset with me.

Current stock:

Folder...Benchmade 805.
Fixed...Camillus Cuda CQB-1.

"Would like to have" knives:

Folder...Benchmade (left-hand) 630 Skirmish.
Fixed...Benchmade 140 Nimravus with satin 154CM blade.

strider SA and buck-strider mini-tactical folder (881), tanto.

If I ran out the door today I'd reach for my;

RAT7 and,
Spyderco Military

Great question. It is actually something that I want to achieve for a while too. Just wanna keep things to the essential only. Ok so here are the lists:

Dream combo: Fixed - any Strider
Folder - any Strider

Reality (what I actually own and like):

Fixed - Benchmade 180 (had a hard time to decide whether I should choose the BM 180 or my Ka-Bar USMC, the ka-bar is more useful but the BM 180 still won me over cuz I think it is more elegant)

Folder - Buck/Strider 880T, just love this baby, can't stress that enough. :D

Out of my current stock:
small fixed: Dozier stag slim outdoorsman
Large fixed: BK-5
folder: Camillus Dominator

Out of my fantasy stock:
small fixed: Ed Fowler pronghorn
Large fixed: anything large and by Jerry Fisk
folder: Scott Cook Lochsa

With such a limited set I have to go for maximum versatility...

Folder: Darrel Ralph Madd Maxx (4" recurve in Talonite)

Fixed: Bob Dozier Texas Six (5-1/2" spearpoint in D2)

I like 3" to 4" fixed blades for casual carry and I am almost never without a 5-1/2" folder, but the combination above would cover just about every occasion and need if I had to make do with only two knives. Thanks goodness I don't! :)

Yep, in fact, that was one of the main reasons I asked this question; I wanted to see what sort of "do-all" knives different people like. Plus, given the strict limitation, I think this question causes us to pare down our knives to the finest selection, choosing only what we think would be totally reliable.

That is another reason I had for posting this question. (thanks for the compliment, BTW  ). With the plethora of fine knives available, I often find myself getting lost in the mix. Between the lists of "do have" and "wanna have", I sometimes find myself reeling with the selection. A list like this lets me re-center my collection and attitude towards it.

Thanks for all of the replies and keep 'em comin'. :)

fixed: HI khukuri, 18" WWII. Chopper, weapon, prybar. With karda and chakma, pretty versitile and easy to maintain. How many fixed blades come with a little blade and burnishing tool?

folder: a Wegner SAK my Grandpa gave me while he was still alive. Don't know the model, must be twenty years old. Two blades, phillips and flat-head, can and bottle openers, file, saw, scissors, tiny wrench, awl and corkscrew.

I think that about covers it. Good thread.

I would go with Tops Show down Delta for the fixed and benchmade 722BT for the folder.
