I am not sure how many of you remember that I refurbished my Dad's pre 1960 Ka-Bar Hunter.

Well, I have been waiting to try my hand at tooling in order to get this sheath done. I gave it a shot over the last day or so - and got a chance to finish it tonight. I need to put a Dangler on this one - but I wanted to post the pics while I had the camera out.

Here is a close up of the burnishing on the edge. I used a black dye on the edge to get it to pop a little more.

I think it turned out pretty well. I will have to learn a lot more to be more than just a basic leather tooler.

looks good man... your leather work is nice and clean.... i need to get my butt back in gear, i haven't done any leatherwork for a while now...:( we've been super busy lately...

The best so far!

Check your e-mail sucka. I sent you a couple of links to tooling deals.
Oh yea, my goodies from Beaumont Metal works will be here tomorrow.....And I ordered more than just the rotary platen :)

Make a sweet quiver and arm guard combo! Those are SO cool!

Techna,

I tried to call you. Get of the 1-900 numbers and answer the phone Sucka!

That looks good - the style matches the knife perfectly. Nice work!

Looking good Tal. The key to tooling is getting the leather cased properly. Sometimes its easy to start tooling too early before the leather has begun to dry from the dampness. It should not be dark from wet, and should be cool to the touch.

I agree Andy. I wet formed it - let it dry - and then cased it with a sponge. That worked. If I wet form in the evening I am not tempted to grab it and get to work until it is dry and I can case it properly.

Thanks for your comments Andy - I see that Barberfobic has your blade now. I hope he digs it!

Man you do nice leather bro.

It makes me smile to see that ol Kabar gettin some new life. Nice work!!!!

Looks great. I like tooling like that. It helps to set off the holster but isn't garrish or overbearing.

Charlie,

Thanks - It is tough. With that little leather - you don't want it to look like something a whore would wear... nothing against whores...

PitDog - I should have taken before pics. My dad did not understand a hollow grind when he was a kid - so he took a FILE to it. :o

Nice job. I really like how the handle is sticking out like that. Makes it look more elegant to my own eyes.
