One for the experts!

Hi,
Blade marked 440 STAINLESS the other side of blade marked TAIWAN...I know it is not the same knife as in the beginning of thread.Just thought I would show that it is not a bad copy of a SOG folder. It is made okay, not great.
Not what I would carry.
The TAIWAN mark could be polished off,it is only etched on the blade.440 STAINLESS is deep struck.
I'm not claiming anything by my post or disputing other's comment's.Just thought this was interesting seeing the knife at the beginning of post then seeing this one I have.
I thought the knife in this post was a knock off when I first saw the pic.But reading along some say it may be real.Hey who knows maybe this guy has a real rare knife.
Take care,
Pete
p.s. Thanks for hosting the pics for me.

Pete's knife is a "knock-off" of the Sogwinder II. Sorry. The Sogwinder series was never manufactured in Taiwan and featured a brass thumbstud. Grinds are also wrong. Pete's pictured knife shows deeper grinds than the genuine SOG, which is somewhere between flat and slightly rolled. Also, Pete said it was made "OK." I've not heard anyone who's owned a Tomcat, Stingray, or Sogwinder I/II which has called it only "OK." They almost always say it "ROCKED!"

FYI...you can always tell the larger vs. the small knives (Tomcat vs. Stingray and Sogwinder II vs. Sogwiner I) by the larger knife having a butt bolster (sorry, can't resist myself). See a picture of both the "real" the Sogwinder I (small) and Sogwinder II (large) below.

Also, regarding UKKEN's knife, the printing usually says "Seki-Japan" instead of the "440 Stainless." Personally, I can't remember the "steel" type being there (as shown) on earlier knives, but certainly may have.

Hope this helps.

Anything I can clear up? Or is it something for a "therapist"?

Hi,
I think you guy's missed the point of my post. What I want to show is that it is marked 440 STAINLESS like the other, and that the TAIWAN can be cleaned off.I also know the one I have here is a knock off.I'm sure all of these knives have been copied at one time or another as well as most other knive's being made today.
The best bet would be to ask the owner of SOG Knive's if they marked them the way the knife in the first post is marked.
Take care,
Pete

Yes, I did miss your point. Sorry for that.

This might be worth a try, but from my experience, four out of five times I'd bring something like this to Spencer, he had no idea...so I needed to find out the answer myself. Also, Spencer was busy enough that cornering him was often a challenge. Maybe Chris will corner him and get an answer (don't hold your breath).

Take care.
