One for the Little Rock Show

A beautiful blade and the handle with copper fittings sets it off perfectly. I would buy it if I could afford it just to have and admire.

Thanks a lot for the nice comments, guys. I do appreciate it.

I'm going to make a small alteration to the handle and then probably "exchange" it. If it doesn't go, I'll bring it to the Blade Show with me for certain folks to fondle. :D

Mark - I've had the very same question about a year and a half ago after making the Moose Knife with several spacers in it. The brass spacer was heavier than regular wood or antler. However, it is only marginally heavier than stabilized wood.

Interestingly, the handle is longer in real life than it looks in the picture. Looks like a regular 4.5-5" handle....but it's actually 5.75" - more like a khukuri handle than a bowie.

I did this to get a good balance - 1/2" in front of the guard - but also to allow for several different hand positions. You have enough room to grip the knife fully with your thumb extended - as you would if you were trying to "stick" something with high precision.

Anyway...just some thoughts. I try to put thought into what I do...sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. I have a slight correction I need to make to this handle and then it'll be ready.

Funny story - showed this to Danbo at the Little Rock show....he wasn't too excited by it (but he had just bought a Fisk bowie..!! )....when his large-handed buddy wanted to see it, he said it wouldn't fit his hand....sure enough, it did.

Like I said, there's much to be said for maintaining proper proportions.
