One for the weird file

not as much a Buck expert as others here, but with all the collaberations in this industry, why not a Hilfiger designed sheath to make something unique. Both are quality, reputible brands. Seems to me a unique, but good match. I like it. Not cheesy, just different. Cool.

The clam pack he shows in the listing looks to be the older style. No American Flag on the front and no explaination of the Pro, Avid or Select product liness on the back of it. Buck started doing that in 2009 I believe.

I ordered one also in hopes of getting the Tommy snap.

I learned recently that missing from the catalog doesn't have to mean something isn't being made anymore. I have a 419 Kalinga with a date stamp from 2010 and the box it came in has a date printed on the label of 12/13/2010, so that model at least continued pretty near all the way through the first year that it was "discontinued".

J. Hubbard stated just a short time ago in regards to the old style, "discontinued" 442's that were showing up with new 2011 date stamps stamps, "Sometimes 'not in the catalog' does not mean fully 'discontinued', as is the case here."

Mitch, what's the date stamp on your new one?

The date code is for 2008.

Another thought, the place that makes our sheaths makes them for other companies as well and got one (?) of the snap caps mixed up.

I bet you are correct on this. In the 1980's I saw a Craftman wrench set with some Proto wrenches by mistake. The same Texas tool factory made both.:D

I'll add a bit to the oddness. I got mine today and the blade is not stamped with anything other than the model number, 415, at the base of the blade. No Buck USA as you see in Mitch's photo. Without the original clamshell packaging, this thing has no reference to Buck at all. I can't decide if I'm disappointed or that it just doesn't matter.

It's my first Kalinga and I plan on putting it to good use. It's a nice knife!

thats interesting casey. If its a user, I dont think it matters as it will give you good service, though I would be interested to know why the stamp isnt there.

I edc a folding Kalinga with their leather sheath. You could replace the sheath with one made from leather and then good to go.
