Forged this one at our last gathering. The steel is from a concrete hopper machine that fill cement trucks. the story goes that the bars were 3" when new .the piece I have is 1" square. It has some interesting grain. It is tough.I've dropped it on my shop floor several times into the concrete floor and it just chips the floor. The bone handle is an unknown species that I fould on the James river after the Isabel. The little rawhide piece is buffalo (thanks Chuck) I dont know if you can see it from the photo but the stamp was made by Carl Rechsteiner specifically for the knives we forge there. A little German silver buttcap.I'm ready for another hammer-in.:D

Pretty cool stuff there, Mark.

Any hammer-ins coming up 'round your area?

(when you going to GA?)

Looks real good. is Germal Silver like pewter? or more like real silver? did you have to do anything to the bone?

Thanks Guys,

Dan It would be fun to get a hammer-in organized for "around here". I usually have a 9-10 hr drive to the Trackrock hammer-in.

Terry german silver is the same as white brass if memory serves correctly. The bone has been age stabilized:D It might be a bit brittle but would take a pretty hard blow to break it.No tellinb what it is. I found it at my fossil pit.

no telling what you will find in a fossil pit, maybe a piece of taranasaurs rex :D i worked on a seizmic crew thru NC about 18 years ago and as we got closer to the beach we would find lots of fossil sharks teeth in the gravel of driveways. one guy found one that was about 6 inches long and probably about 4 inches wide in perfect shape. he said he wanted to make a neclace out of it  so it could really be a piece of dianasaur, have you taken it to a museum, i think they possibly could tell you.

That turned out right nice. Gonna use flying lizard skin for the sheath? Guess you went ahead and drawed temper on that one before you tested it (heh, heh, heh). Bone looks a little large for a chicken leg. Nice period look.
WARNING! WARNING!............You folks up around Norfork and Hampton better hide your chickens 'cause old Gouge will be looking for embellishments for the sheath. You might want to keep an eye on any other livestock as he may be looking for bigger toes this time!

Y'all better be worried a bit further out than this area.i've been know to drive 3 or 4 hours for a good supply of animal parts. That which dont get eaten makes for good sheath parts, uuuh huh.

If anybody has some good animal parts they dont need just send them to me I'll pay for shipping. Valentines day is coming up soon and Its tradition that I give Deb animal parts.
