Throwing out a challenge here, next time your in the woods, tie a hand behind your back or put into a sling and try to do the following:

- gather wood, make shavings, use a firesteel and light a fire

- build a shelter, using either a tarp or making one form found materials

etc

have a buddy take pics and tell us your experiences.

The idea is to simulate losing use of a limb in the woods and to try and do regular bushcraft skills / tasks one handed.

:D

DISCLAIMER: try at your own risk, you agree to assume all liability if you injure yourself while trying this.

Several years ago when I broke my right (dominant) arm/wrist, I posted the same thing on a few forums, this one included.

Definitely changes how things turn out...

Things that are affected (read maybe need to change to single hand friendly)
- opening a folder
- sparking a firestarter
- tying knots
- applying first aid items (bandages, tourniquet, etc)
- preparing food
- firing a weapon

Good item for discussion to bring to the surface man....

I'd be interested in hearing your experiences THATMGUY,

such as, from a psychological point of view how frustrated/angry/lose hope etc did you get?

and also how you overcame it!

I have broken both hands so often this is not a problem. Practice makes decent.
