Kgd's recent post about one handed firelighting set me off wanting to try it again today.

Over here at this time of the year everything is soaked through so I knew this wasn't gonna be the same as doing it in Summer.

First up was a Balsam fir branch~

And then just for comparison I tried it with Fatwood~

Try the one handed technique and post up some vids or pics !

Yeah, fatwood and that resin stuff you use is almost always going to be faster and easier than any "regular" wood. The fact that it is so easy is why it draws the most fire from opponents, I guess because it will create a dependence for those who are lazy and don't experiment. Dry shavings are easily lit with a ferro rod, it's just things are seldom dry in our parts of the world...even less in yours.

I think I missed a post somewhere, but who made that knife you've been carrying lately? I like the style.

Beautiful shots by the way!

Great stuff as always pitdog. I hope you don't mind but I have been saving a few of these pics. They are in rotation as my desktop backgrounds. I absolutely love the scenery.
