One Handed Traditional Knife

My vote is for the Mnandi. It's not a traditional exactly but it's close.

That's why I'd suggested this too. Yes, it's a Ti framelock. But it has some more of the elegant, 'warm', aesthetics that I usually associate with more traditional knives. Sorta get the same 'vibe' from some of the William Henry knives too.

I agree. It looks a lot like a traditional but has a lot of modern knife inovations incorporated in to it.

Moving this to General.

We are getting out of the realm of traditionals when it comes to thumbstuds and Mnandis.

I think these are still in production:
Kershaw Double Cross and Double Duty.
The one I've owned for several years is (I think) the Double Duty. Hardwood handle, polished bolsters, clip point and wharncliffe blades (both blades have thumb studs and nail nicks), dual liner locks. The other model has a long spey blade instead of the small wharncliffe blade.

Case also has the Slimlock line. Very elegant with natural handle materials and BG-42 blades, but again, not cheap.

Have you considered Al Mar?

Holly......I just made a lot of wierd noises my coworker is giving me strange looks for. And I have to try and block my screen so no one sees what I'm doing now.

Anyway, WOW, I'm blown away by those two, and they are next on the list!
BTW Ranger what is the model name/# of that al mar? I want to know.

Eagle Jigged Bone Talon Blade AM1005HJBT
runs around 150
4" blade

Case costs about the same, but only 2 1/4" blade

Thanks for that, do those Al Mar only come with AUS 8 steel?
I absolutely love how that knife looks. Hmmm...I also didn't realize the Case was that short, do they make similar model with longer blade?

Not sure if they can be opened one handed, but some of the Scagle slipjoint reprodutions have holes in the blade.

Was there a custom maker supplying his own handmade versions of the discs used to make 110's one handed openers?

Unfortunately, I don't think Case ever had anything larger in this particular style. I'm like you, I was tempted to get one of these a few years back, but didn't because it was just a bit small for my tastes. Otherwise, a beautiful knife.

I like the Al Mar knives too. I keep wishing they'll upgrade their blade steel (I think VG-10 would be perfect in these knives, or even ATS-34/154CM).

I guess SERE would be the next best choice for us, except its a bit more "tactical" looking and I'm really hoping for something along the traditional style with more modern but still elegant design.

Still if they upgraded their steel the price would go up, not sure how much, but maybe for that kind of money custom knife from one of the makers here can do the trick. I will look into it.

AUS 8 isn't a bad steel, I might just get one I just wish it was sub $100 then it would be a great value. As it is, if I'm not planing to sell it, so it might be worth it, because it is something I like. After all I bought BUSSE at prices way over the the original price.

I second that Al Mar Eagle with the pick bone scales. It is definitely on my "todo" list. I have long liked the Al Mar designs and have had 3 of them in my life. Two were given to good friends as gifts and the other one just got lost or walked off.

I don't see anything wrong with Aus 8.

By the way, I will be posting it in traditionals when I get it as that is where it belongs in my mind. Heads up to the forum police - :D

Actually, a humble Opinel might fit the bill. you can open these one handed and slide the collar round to lock it. Does depend on the wooden handle not being swollen with damp though...

I have the Hanwei Sheffield folder and it's excellently made, looks Old School but has modern features: thumbstud, skeleton construction, button lock, all stainless. You can open this one handed with no probs at all. Try the Bay it may yield one up.
