One Handers & Multis - What's Your Combo?

grinding down a magnetic bit holder works great. I use it with some long reach bits so the shortness of the stock bits is no longer an issue.

Ive been on my second Spyderco Endura 50/50 for several years, and Im on my Second Supertool as Well. This go around I opted for the 200, but im aggrivated with it. The philips head on my 11 year old Supertool will work on screws several sizes smaller than the Phillips head of my Supertool 200. This probably wouldnt matter to most people.....But it bugs me to death. Ive tried swithching the drivers, but I cant budge the screws on the 200. I carried my original supertool everyday for ten years, and used it everyday. I guess once you get used to something its hard to accept anyhting else. As for my Enduras, my first lasted a few years and was lost due to clip failure(plastic). Ive had this one for several years also, and the clip has starded to spin in place. This too is aggrivating....so its time to replace it.

Ive had several Multis, from the original supertool, and the first, very painful gerber to the latest offerings from both. I've always wanted to give the Swisstool a shot since Ive been a Victorinox nut from birth, but never have. So far with the exception of the screwdriver, the Supertool 200 is my favorite. Although if they made a larger version of the wave to fit my big hands, I might just have a new favorite. Ok... I got a little long on the reply... sorry guys.

Chris

Ive drooled over it since the day it came out. It has that same trademark feel that can only be described as metalic velvet. Nothing feels like a victorinox. To this day I cant pass by one without rubbing my thumb over the steel. I guess Im afraid that it wont live up to my expectations. That and Im sure if I buy one more Multi my wife will divorce me for sure. Especially since I keep going back to old faithful. Well... I am in the market to retire my tired endura, so I just might give the swisstool a whirl.

***UPDATE***

I know this is an older thread, but I just had to put it out there. I received a Spyderco Military from my loving wife for Christmas and last week I purchased a Swisstool X on the big E.......FOR $32 BUCKS......Can you believe it? I now have the combo I have dreamed of....(Especially since doing the Millie passaround). I guess now I should get a couple more folders so I can rotate....... :)

Since you updated, I'll update.
I now carry a cutomized SOG Powerlock and a one hand folder (Spyderco Calypso Jr.). This way I get a one hand blade and one hand pliers. On lighter days (When I probably won't _need_ anything), I carry the SOG in my bag (instead of on belt) and a small SAK (Farmer or the like.)

The LM Crunch/Cybertool 41 is a great combo, but it's size and weight overkill most of the time. Plus I like having the better steel on my Spyderco available.

LM Super Tool with SOG Flash II or Cold Steel Pro Lite
LM Juice Cs4 with Spyderco Dragonfly (when my Dragonfly arrives)
LM Sguirt P4 with Cold Steel Tuff Lite

for the moment in my EDC:
Spyderco Jester (soon the Calypso Jr, I'm waiting to recieve it), with my Vic Locksmith, Cybertool 34, and Wenger Esquire. to come, the Swisstool RS to add a multi to my SAKs :).

I own a crapload of both multis and knives, but my EDC is down to a few combinations:

Heavy-Duty:
Multi: SwissTool (formerly Schrade ToughTool or Kershaw Tool)
Knife: CRKT Kasper/Crawford Folder (large), or sometimes CRKT Ryan Model Seven

Medium-Duty (casual):
Multi: Leatherman Wave 2004 (sometimes LM Charge Ti)
Lockblade Knife: BM 710, or CRKT Ryan Model Seven, or Spyderco Endura
Slipjoint: Schrade 8OT Large Stockman, or sometimes a big Daddy Barlow

Medium-Duty (dressed up a bit):
Multi: Leatherman Juice Pro, or Vic CyberTool (I work with computers)
Lockblade: any of a dozen 2.5"-3" folders; CRKT BladeLock, Viele Wasp, BM 530, BM513, you get the idea
Slipjoint: Schrade or Case stockman, sometimes a SAK SuperTinker

Light-Duty (dressed up):
Leatherman Squirt P4
Lockblade: Spyderco Dragonfly Stainless or Cricket, or other dainty little gentleman's folder
Slipjoint: any of a dozen small fancy pieces; I'm partial to Case, or Santa Fe Stoneworks-modded knives.

Good first post!

Hmmm... OK, I guess it's not THAT few combinations, huh?

My GF kids me about it, because I put as much thought into my EDC setup as she does into her makeup and shoes. It's just another part of the wardrobe, to me.
