We got a late start this morning but went fishing anyway. Stopped at Okie Bait and Tackle and picked up a 1/4 pound of medium minnows and headed out to Bluff Landing about 12 miles east of Broken Arrow. Nice place with a small dock built to fish off of and a concrete sidewalk leading to it so I can get my Rollator down the ramp and onto the dock.
We caught a few Bluegill and a Goggle Eye and I caught a small Largemouth Bass, too little to keep.
After a while Barb pulled in a nice Black Crappie that went about a pound or a little more.
Pretty soon she pulled in another and told me that I needed to come down to her end of the dock so I did.
No sooner hardly got there and got my minner in the water and Bam! I had one and bigger than Barb's, pissed her off too. ;)
I missed a couple of really nice ones, guess I didn't have 'em hooked good or the hook tore out, they don't call 'em "Paper Mouth's" for nothing.:(
Anyway Barb and I evened out with three really nice Crappie a piece and eight nice Bluegills.
We stayed there for nearly six hours and I stood up a whole lot of that time, but of course I had the dock railing to lean on.;)
But there were several other good things, neither of us had to go up to the facilities the whole time we were there.
Barb learned to tie her own hooks on her line instead of depending on me.
Barb lost one of her bobbers but managed to retrieve it with hardly any trouble. She also lost a couple of hooks on a log from not reeling fast enough and the fish ran under them but when we were cleaning our catch I found a couple of the same hooks in the fish so we didn't lose any tackle.
Always a plus and a very unusual day fishing in the brushpiles the fish like to hang out in.
If I'm not too stove up when we get up in the morning we'll go out again tomorrow!!!! :D

And on top of that I have finished five SciFi books of short stories. :-)
And Uncle Bill's book, The Dreamer. :-O

Thats great Yvsa . I was looking at my own gear a day or two ago . I think I might scare up a few perch when season opens . Whats a goggle Eye ? It makes me think of :blinky: the three eyed fish on the Simpsons .

Sounds like a good day at the fishin hole to me. I haven't seen a one lb crappie in quite a while.
I need to go fishin...

Yvsa, you're making me jealous.

By golly, now you're talking, GIT 'R DONE. The water's warming up enough the old whisker toms are starting to get active down here in Texas. I ain't got a boat for running me a trotline, but us Florida crackers know a thing or two about spring poles and bush hooks. Catfish, cheese grits, cole slaw, hush puppies, and ice cold beer, ah son, that'll make your tongue slap your head off. :D

Good on you Yvsa, them big old slab sided specks are some of the best eatin' in this world. Sounds like you and Barb are really putting the hooks to 'em. Freeze you up a few stringers, and lay on a good old fish fry before the weather gets hot for real. Tight lines and heavy stringers to ya.

Kevin I don't know the true name for them, just call 'em Goggle Eye because of an old friend calling them that. They are a type of perch but have a Bass or Crappie sized mouth and are thicker and heavier than a regular ol' Bluegill.
And they fight like a Largemouth Bass!!!!  :D

Yup, you need to go Mike, then there would be no reason to be jealous. As Sarge says, "GIT 'R DONE."
And Mike, although a one pound Crappie is nice they aren't nearly anything like the great big ol' 2 to 2-1/2 pound Slabs as they call 'em here. Now *Those* are some *Damned Nice* Crappie!!!! ;) :p

You done got that right Sarge, tongue slapping your face off indeed!!!!
I had Barbie buy some grits a while back but I think she has forgotten them as did I.
I love grits and some nice grits and over medium eggs may be just what's for breakfast in a few hours now.
I'm gettin Hongry already!!!! <VBESEG>

We drove up to Spencer Creek on Oologah a couple of days ago but didn't get nary a nibble. Barb's brother siad he talked to some fellows that caught a slopjar full of big slabs a few days ago and said that they said they just stopped cold at 10:00 a.m.
Fish are like that, biting like hell one minute and stopped cold the next and nothing you throw at them will entice them to bite!!!!:(
Still really good to get out to the water and woods though, damn but I have missed that!!!!!!!

Most any day fishin' is a good day.
Catching something is just frosting on the cake.

The perch are biting here. I should get out to the jetty.

Yvsa, congrats. You just set an example for the rest of us to leave our idiot computers alone for a while and pick up a fishing pole.

Our (Florida) Red Snapper season just opened, April 15. We've already caught Speckled Trout and seen an enormous Red Drum right right 'next the pier.

Sadly, I gotta work all weekend. :(

On a happy note, I have pinfish and am gonna put a line out...

Any pix of the catch?

For Sarge: a local restaurant has an unbelievably good southern dish: Grits a Ya-Ya: smoked gouda cheese grits with bacon, shallots, cream and blackened shrimp in it...

Mike

Does sound like a great day. So glad that you are back on your feet again and out fishing!

Barb is a treasure! Don't know what you did to deserve her!

Crappie are my favorite fresh water eating fish, well catfish are pretty good also.

If my mama saw that, it'd make her cry. Shallots and blackened shrimp? Lord, that just hurts my heart. :( :D :p

Sounds like a great time, Yvsa. Man, nothing like being outside with great company. I'm so glad to hear you're doing well, friend. Not too long ago this probably couldn't have happened. And here you are, making the fish fear your name! Very cool, Yvsa. :)

Chris

You know, I just realized that I've never once been fishing. In 21 years. Not once. I've got some catching up to do it seems.

Glad to see that you're up and about and taking advantage of all that you can, Yvsa. I know many more fishing days will follow this one.

So pleased to hear you're out and about....Many more like that one brother!

Yup, It's really great!!!! We went out twice yesterday, and drove a 120+ miles.
In the evening we went back to where we were on Friday and I just did barely catch one really nice Crappie.
The hook was *just* caught in his lip and if the line had went the least bit slack I'da lost him.
I was so damned pooped when we got home that Barbie had to carry everything in *and* clean the fish.
I'm still wore out today but it's a *good* worn out.
My legs damn sure know they have gotten some different exercise. Tomorrow it's back to the mile walks for a few days to build up some more stamina.
It is finally getting further between the rest stops but I know I won't get better in a month, it's gonna take several.
The improvement is wonderful!!!! Helps me to sleep better at night too.  :D

I don't know whether to feel sorry for or be angry at my neighbor. He's down in pretty bad shape but it's largely his own fault because all he ever wanted to do was sit around on his arse and vegetate, which he has done.:( :grumpy:
He was just as able as I was to get out and walk when I started this year.
I'd rather give out than give up!!!!!!! ;) :D

(I,d rather give out than give up) Good words . I,m walking everyday as much as I can , A little more when I can . I actually walked old muttly into the ground today . Of course he was off leash and so put in more miles than me .
You keep getting that good tired feeling and you,ll outlast us all .

Keep up the good work, my friend. Your story makes me smile. Of course, like ALL fishing stories - I only believe about half of it:D

That's terrific, Yvsa. What a good day you had.

I haven't fished in too many years. Maybe I'll get a chance to try it again.
