One item survival

So I haven't found a one item survival thread out there, so I made one. I know it is unrealistic to think of only having one item to survive with, but lets just say you kept everything but one item in your pack, and you lost your pack for some reason. You had this one item in your hand, and have just it and the clothes on your back to survive? What will it be? Pictures would be nice as well as the reason why you picked that item.

For me, that item would be my Browning tactical axe. The axe is great for use as a hatchet as well as doing some fine work you would normally use a knife for. I keep it quite sharp and it actually works well for a one tool option. Sometimes I use it by itself in my bushcraft kit when I am making primitive arrows or shelters, as well as other tasks.

I look forward to your responses.

The best thing I can think of would be my Becker BK9. I can do a lot with that knife.

Although in your scenario of losing the pack when outdoors, I'd be wearing my pistol belt with a .357 revolver, my becker BK2 which has a small fire kit with it and a leatherman, a couple more lighters, and two paracord bracelets, and probably a folder or two.

The lesson here is don't put all your eggs in one basket, keep some items on your person. That, and you can't lose knowledge.

I know not to keep all of my kit in one place, an more often than not I have everything on my person anyway. I want to make a sheath for my axe so I can have my ferro rod on it as well as my fire kit, I just don't know anything about leather working so I can't start it yet

Id probably want a Big-Mac with extra cheese. Id likely be hungry and the fuel would help me get out of the situation instead of trying to stay in it.

Yeah....i was going to say a gallon of water. :D

Ok, ok...i know "knife" or some cutting tool is supposed to be the right answer. But, i would rather have matches, or some other fire starter (if "water" is not allowed for an answer).

Anything is allowed as an answer. I just chose a cutting tool because I am very confident in my bow drill fires, after all, I do teach primitive skills...

A Mewolf. I could kick back and relax while he made cordage, a treehouse with elevator, woven cordage hammocks with grass and feather mattresses, a water pump and filter, bark cookware, tableware and cups, a nice toasty campfire to cook the fish he caught with sauteed mushrooms and stuffed squirrels while we lounged in chairs he made. Oh, and I'd find some tobacco for his pipe. It doesn't take much to keep him happy while he is building a bark canoe.

Smaller size (3-4" or so) sturdy knife- to me this would be ideal. But, I have found I can do without it. A good stone chip or glass chip works fine. Carrying it or using it is a bit difficult, but they cut like a razor. I am not inclined to do heavy chopping since I prefer to be more opportunistic (see lazy) when in survival mode I guess. Something to carry some water in in the desert would be nice. Don't need to carry water here in Florida though. Interesting idea.

Can I change my answer to a Star Trek replicator?

Reality check.... If I had most of my stuff in my pack and lost it in the woods, I'd probably have my Black Jack 125 knife on my belt, a SAK in my pocket, and probably matches and a lighter in my pocket. I seldom keep everything in a single place. I am fond of my Black Jack 125 for a user and it would be my "choice" of only one item that I might have with me anyway in the woods. I suspect I would be in trouble if I couldn't walk out in a day depending on the time of the year. I'm no Rambo.

LMAo. Could you settle for anything less than feathers for a bit? It's gonna take me a bit to gather up all the birds.;)

Sure, I am content that you could find enough fluffy moss to use until you could put the smackdown on enough fowl. I did forget to mention the squirrel hide conforters and stuffed possum pillows. And the bark cookware would only have to last until I could make enough clay pottery. And that is something we could trade to other tribes for wimminks, horses and maybe even real tobacco for the pipe. I am pretty good at flint knapping too, so fish hooks and gorges, knives, scrapers, darts and atlatl points in short order. I also know how to make translucent window panes from greased critter guts so that the treehouse is well lit without being drafty. I have a plan for an elevator for the treehouse as well so we don't have to do all that climbing up and down.

Well...since I am anal about always having a knife within reach...to the point I don't even remember the last time I slept, took a sh!#, or took a shower without one within reach...odds are it will be a knife of some sort. I can foresee many instances where I would wish I had a smaller one or a larger one...or had something else entirely, such as a phone to call for help, a flash light to keep from breaking my neck in the treacherous terrain here in the dark, or a gun so I could shoot myself for being dumb enough to lose all my other gear...but in reality odds are it would be a knife.
