One knife collection

Anyone out there considered selling their collection of various knives to strictly collect knives from one knife maker? If so which maker did you decide on and why?

When I was starting I found some affordable but extremely popular models from several of the most popular manufacturers. The kershaw skyline ended up being the knife I really fell in love with so I picked up some other kershaws and really liked them. Which eventually led to my first ZT... Which became a very slippery slope. Luckily I got my addiction in check before I got too out of hand, but I doubt I will be having a year where I purchase anywhere near the amount of blades I got last year. Not anytime soon anyway.

going strictly with a "brand" just for the sake of having a drawer full of just that one particular 'brand', is a biproduct of a brainwashed, consumerist society. After all, if you dont have 'the brand' , your quality of life is less than everyone elses.

It's nice to focus on one brand for a collection. I still buy outside the KAI brand but the options are endless so if you really want to collect that and don't have unlimited funds you need to narrow your collection. Honestly my main collection is the various models of kershaw skylines. The fun is in the hunt and it is a small enough group that I can at least identify what is needed to have a full collection.

not at all, I like to have a variety. I also don't like to own knives that will sit around and not be used, so I keep my stable pretty small.

Reason I was asking is b/c find myself drawn to midtechs more than any other knife (CRK, Strider, Hinderer). I love all of them in their own way. It gets pretty pricey to own them all so I was trying to focus on one for my collection none of which would be safe queens

Sounds to me like you're going through a mid-knife crisis. :D

Sorry,...couldn't help myself.

No, but my collection consists mostly of CRK's.

I don't think one knife maker has a wide enough range to satisfy my tastes.

I tend to be all over the place, it's impossible for me to narrow in on one maker. First, it has to catch my eye.. something, even if just flat out ugly, has to make me say "look at that thing". Next I'll look at the specs and see if they appeal (size, materials, etc). Finally, I'll research reviews and videos if I can't find a local sample to see how it feels in hand. Then I'll make up my mind if it's something I want. Finally I look in my wallet and see if it goes on the wish list or gets ordered. I just could never have a full drawer of CRKs, even though I love the one I have, too may others out there to have multiples of one make/maker (though a backup is fine).

My collecting began close to 3 years ago with Barkies. I have close to 15 of them. I moved on to folders spyderco then a couple of Reeves and striders. Have only sold one knife in all this time. Was a small sebenza. I had two and kept the insingo and sold the normal one to fund my second strider, a PT.

Have actually been content for the last several months just sitting on what I have.

I've already narrowed my collection down quite a bit. I started w/ Spyderco Manix sprints then moved on to PM sprints. I have since sold those and moved onto CRK, Strider, Hinderer and a Les George VECP.

I've realized I can't live w/o a Sebenza, XM-18, VECP, and an SnG. Although those four are my go to blades I find myself wanting variations of those. I have an Insingo, working finish slicer, and a few Striders w/ premium steels

Seeing as how I'm slowly building my humble collection, I would have to say no. Everyday I'm on here I learn more and I realize my tastes may change at any moment. I actually don't own any Spydercos, but have knives from Kershaw, Buck, Opinel, Gerber and Emerson. I need to pick up at least 1 Spyderco 2014!

That being said, I completely understand the satisfaction in getting every variant of your favorite blade. All the options in handle colors, steels and so forth make it very hard to resist going down that dark path :D

Nice. LOL

I have brands that I really like but that doesn't mean every product they make is worthwhile to buy. There are a lot of knives that quite frankly suck at doing knife work and it seems every company has 1 or 2 models that fall into that category. I don't collect though so what do I know. :D

I can't just collect one manufacturer. My taste in knives and budget constantly change, as do the products offered by various companies. I think having a variety of knives is good too in case your former-favorite brand does something stupid (Benchmade, I'm looking at you ) or a different brand puts out something really cool (Kershaw Thermite ).

Nothing lasts forever...unless you can afford to keep 'em all.
My taste runs all over the place also. I settled for a few...for now.

I collect knives from Busse Combat. The only knives I have that are not Busses were purchased when I wanted a configuration Busse does not offer, such as a folder or a traditional semi-skinner blade shape.

Many times I've wanted to just dump most of it and keep 2-3. But I just can't do it.
