One knife collection

When I first got into knife collecting I've pretty much bought all of the popular production and semi-production/custom knives. I found myself getting super excited about them for the first two weeks and then I'd sell it to buy a different one. Eventually I went through a "purge phase" and sold off almost all of my folders except for two.... a Spyderco Chinook 1 serial numbered and an xm18 3.5 spanto.

I ended up carrying and using the xm18 everyday for the past 6+ months now and I found myself often times taking it out to fondle/flip/admire it and be all giddy about it as if I had just acquired it. I came to the conclusion that the xm18 3.5" is THE knife for me. The only flaw I personally see in the knife is that I wish the detent was stronger so that it would fire out when I flip it. Other than that, it is perfect in every other way.

So from now on I am mainly "collecting" xm18 customs/DLC coated as safe queens.

What's that traditional wharncliffe in the pic? Nice Laconicos, btw.

The traditional is from T.A. Davison. He sells his knives on the -knife makers market- subforum here. It has box elder burl scales that have been dyed. Not a traditional knife fan normally but really liked the way this one looked combined with the acid washed blade.

Many times I've wanted to just dump most of it and keep 2-3. But I just can't do it.

When I find myself at similar crossroads I remind myself that the object isn't to own all of the toys, but to experience them and pass them on. Or how ever the saying goes

While I don't think I'll ever own just one brand of knife I am starting to restructure my collecting to strictly Buck knives. I've been an accumulator for years and have enjoyed the exposure it brings to new and different brands and models but I find the hunt and capture of specific knives more to my liking rather than just grabbing the "latest and greatest" that hits the market. That being said, I don't yet collect just one model of Buck and perhaps I never will but I could see myself doing that with something like the 110 Hunter with it's large number of variations.

Never considered it and never will. Companies or makers tend to have a certain style and I like multiple styles of knives. I use my knives for different things and for different applications in which I prefer a different knife. So no, but if I were to do that then I would go with a custom maker who has a nice variety and at the moment I am still debating which one I would go with, the one maker/brand thing just does not work out for me.
