one knife to last you the rest of your life in the wilderness that you already own or is being shipped to you. mine is my kabar

As much as I love Bowie knives and big knives in general, if I could have only one knife to last me for the rest of my life, it would be my Leatherman wave.

Only one knife that i own to survive in the wilderness would probably be my Swamp Rat RMD. but that will probably change very soon as there are quite a few wilderness blades ive been looking at!

At the moment I would probably say it would be my Blind Horse Knives Bush Crafter model. Fits my hands very well.

Well for reliability either one of my 3 busse/kin: swamp rat RMD, busse tankbuster, busse CGFBM. They will probably outlive me no matter how much I bang on them.

If it had to be one I already own, I guess my Strider GB. I'm between fixed blades right now :(.

Just for fun, Busse Basic 9 should do well:

Out of the ones I own right now...

Buck 119 or ESEE Izula

I think I would probably go with the Buck given that scenario. If it's my only knife I won't want to put it through any of the ridiculous tasks that the Izula might be stronger for, and then once you consider the 3" more of blade real estate there's probably a lot more I could get done with the Buck while still having it be a reasonable size for other tasks. On the other hand, I could see the 119's tip breaking off in hard use easier than the Izula's and all I could really think of doing with the Buck's length is baton. Then I suppose there might be the issue of corrosion to take into account and the Izula has the upper hand there with the coating. Both blades should be easy enough to sharpen but the Izula probably wins there.

It's a tough call but I think I'd have to go with the Izula, I just think it would stand up to the test of time as the only tool you have for longer than the Buck would, and the Buck's added length just wouldn't be enough to compensate for that. I suppose I could pretend that if you needed to defend yourself from wild life the length might matter then...

I suppose maybe one definitive advantage of the carbon steel... You might have the possibility of getting the right kind of rock to make fire with.

Realistically though... I'd probably lose my knife throwing it at a squirrel after the first week of starvation.

I'd go with my Scrapyard Regualtor it isn't a small knife by any means but in a pinch it could also do slightly more delicate tasks also the RES-C handle is the best I've ever handled.

Well, despite few Busse's (all I have are too specialized- garage work, chopping, fighting :)) and Fehrman Peace Maker (excellent, but a bit small :)) in my possession :) I would go with my K9 Dingo. All you need.

depends. if for only needed in bare, sparse, open type woods where no knife or tool is really needed to move from one part to another? and for just fun and weekend warrioring....maybe a big knife like a kabar or esee 6 or condor hudson bay type. since i wouldn't need to chop any paths or thick brush or small trees down, etc.

now if needed for use in the swamps where i am or a jungle..........then all i want is a good machete. part knife and part axe, the ultimate survival tool. no big knife will handle what a good machete will in thick woods/swamp/jungle, etc. just ask those who live in the se asian jungles, the s. american jungles and central american jungles what cutting tool they carry.
