one knife

Well, despite few Busse's (all I have are too specialized- garage work, chopping, fighting :)) and Fehrman Peace Maker (excellent, but a bit small :)) in my possession :) I would go with my K9 Dingo. All you need.

LOVE the Dingo. If I had one, that would be it for sure.

Combo-edge Spyderco Military. I spend a whole lot of time in the wilderness and I'm not carrying a 3# knife around in the woods!

I have for the past 10 years or so been working on this problem. Buying knives and trying them out, selling, trading, buying more. Of all the knives I have ever owned, I would go with my most recent acquisition. A custom handled Cold Steel Master hunter in Carbon V. It slices spectacularly, the handle is quite comfortable and the steel is tough. It's not too big or heavy and it won't scary as many people as something like a BK-9 or a Trail Master. The Master hunter is my choice assuming that I can also have a saw, or an axe.
If for some reason I can't and this knife is my only tool, I would go with a short stout Machete like the Ontario RTAK II or KaBar Large Heavy Bowie.

Too many choices. Ontario SP8, SP10, 18" machete w/custom choil, RD6 Signature Series, Becker BK9, 7, 2.

either my esee6 or chris reeve green beret, both have served me very well on alot of camping and hunting trips.

depends. if for only needed in bare, sparse, open type woods where no knife or tool is really needed to move from one part to another? and for just fun and weekend warrioring....maybe a big knife like a kabar or esee 6 or condor hudson bay type. since i wouldn't need to chop any paths or thick brush or small trees down, etc.

now if needed for use in the swamps where i am or a jungle..........then all i want is a good machete. part knife and part axe, the ultimate survival tool. no big knife will handle what a good machete will in thick woods/swamp/jungle, etc. just ask those who live in the se asian jungles, the s. american jungles and central american jungles what cutting tool they carry.

I'm the odd ball. Most of my time is either spent in Florida or S.E. Asia. They are very similar. I don't like machetes, never have. Maybe I've just never had a good one, but I think they suck for chopping and honestly just about everything other than hacking a trail through VERY LIGHT brush/vines. This is unless the Junglas counts as a machete. That knife (or machete) is the absolute do all tool for hot/humid wilderness. However, i might pick my "5" over it, if I had to one knife it from here on out. Really tough call, but I'd be more comfortable doing small tasks with the 5. Plus I can conceal it if the need arises. Its a bitch to chop with tho, takes forever because of its short length and butt heavy balance. Ya know, now that I really think about it, it would be the Junglas yep.

Sir, now that is interesting. i'm the exact opposite. i prefer a good machete to a large chopping knife, unless i'm in sparse woods. guess you need to sharpen those machetes.:) kidding.

i'm in florida as well. spend allot of time in the swamps in central fl and up in and around the big bend area. i find big chopping knives to be good for hatchet campsite type chores, not as good as a hatchet, but i can use the big chopper to do some, relative to the size of the knife, finer cutting, so it's a nice compromise.... to me anyways. i find big chopping knives useless for cutting larger brush thick growth and cutting paths. too each their own.....that's the beauty of so many tool choices. one to fit everyone's needs.

ideally i'd like to have my esee 4 with me and my machete, then i got pretty much all i need for the swamp in cutting tools. problem was, the question was one knife. in the thick swamp and heavy jungle and such i'd want a machete, over a large knife, but that's me. thanks for your feedback...something for me to think about and maybe bring out my big choppers and give them another try at using them like a machete.......

I am trying to imagine what on earth would cause me to be that limited ...
but Ill play anyway
