One Large Fehrman Knife

I sure hope Eric is reading these threads. He seemed ready to make something long, wide, and straight, but he was worried about lack of demand. I think if he makes it, lots of people will buy it.

Theoretically the current Fehrman lineup is actually pretty thorough, they have pretty much every angle covered. Given that the Final Judgment is virtually the same size as the Extreme Judgment, People not satisfied with the EJ "technically" have their straight edge alternative.
I think the EJ raises the bar so much that you just can't look at the FJ the same anymore.

On the Last Chance the 1.68 wide blade looks killer, but when you get to the size of the FJ it needs a little more "oomph".

Ooh, another thing they could do with a 2" wide blade would be a last Chance with a ton of belly, basically a LC MUK. I've had a hankering for something like that for a while now, and Fehrman definitely doesn't have an equivalent in the lineup at the moment.

Final Judgment. My reason? I owned one several years ago and it was ALMOST perfect. The handle was a bit wide for my paws, personally, but it was still more than manageable in use. Other than that small personal problem, it was flawless. The only reason I sold was because of financial difficulties.

I've been looking at the Final Judgement for a few weeks now. I already own a lot of knives, but on the bigger size i only own a RC6 and a machete. There's a gap ready to be filled between these 2 blades. The Final Judgement would fill that gap very well. But i'm still not 100% sure. A 9.5-10", 2" wide straight blade, satin finish would make me pull the trigger that's for sure! I started some weekend classes in wilderness survival and the RC6 is an excellent blade but it feels too short and light sometimes. I own a Fehrman ShortStop and I love the quality. I'm ready to buy another Fehrman!

Would a Final Judgement, satin finish would withstand a weekend in the rain without rusting, with only mineral oil applied on the first day (I'm thinking of the survival classes)?

I have no problem sharpening my ZT0300 with my Fallkniven DC4 hone.

Are you using the curve on corner of this hone for the recurve? The reason that I ask is I own a ZT0200 that I have had some trouble with. I have several flat bench stones but the only way that I can get a good edge on the 200, from tip to tail, is by using the spyderco profile set I got my brother for christmas, after getting him a BM 630 for his birthday. (He had to be able to sharpen it!) So I am looking for something to remedy this situation: before I was considering a curved diamond hone. Any sugestions? (I have used the chamfer on my spyderco flat stones to some sucess but the flats are a no go)

Not trying to derail the thread, just curious:)

Yes it would.
3V is not as rust prone as many would lead you to believe. Have you had any issues with the edge rusting on your Shortstop? Any problems with your RC6 edge? ( I am asuming you keep these edges reasonably clean and dry) 3V is much more corrosion resistant than 1095.
Wipe it off every night and you'll be fine.

I have the Fehrman Last Chance with a satin finish, and I've used it many times outdoors in the cold, the wet, and the wind... It has withstood everything I've thrown at and begged for more. Although the steel will corrode if exposed to moisture for prolonged periods of time, it is fairly easy to clean it right up when you get back. Fehrman uses 400 grit sandpaper to produce the satin finish on his blades, so if it corrodes at all, just hit it with the paper for a bit and any corrosion will clean right up.

I am an avid kayaker, and my Last Chance is the knife that comes with me on those trips, so that should tell you something about my confidence in the blade, even when I know I'm going to get wet...
