One more advice question. Heavy folder.

I have a Spyderco Military and CS Recon 1 (triad) next to me. Just compared them and the Recon 1 is light yet just a hair heavier than the Military.

Both are stabbing safe in the grip department with plenty of handle space. Millie come in at about $125 and the Recon 1 was about $70's I'm pretty sure.

The Recon 1 would be the more stout of the two - your use might not require it though. The Recon 1 is a smidge longer blade (comparing only the "sharpened portions" of the 2 blades).

Both have very grippy G-10 handles.

I's recommend either one of these.

With the Spyderco can you at some point with practice open one handed with a flick of the wrist?

Yes, the Military is a liner lock so it isn't hard. With a lot of practice you can even flick open their lockbacks without touching the Spyderhole.

My recommendations:

1) Cold Steel American Lawman (i have it, EDC it and love it!!!)
2) Probably another Cold Steel item - Recon 1

I'm sure there are others, but i'm really satisfied w/the Cold Steel Tri-Ad lock-blade. It's simply inspires complete confidence that it won't accidently close on me.

Edge retention is great and it's takes a wicked sharp edge - scary sharp - quite easily.

Absolutely. I can (and you too with some practice) open both knives with a flick and a turn of the wrist.

I open from the top with my thumb, from the bottom with my middle finger and the Spyder drop too of course. :)

Thanks everyone. The 4 inch rule is the limit the last time I checked for my state. However, a touch over, like 4.25 inches might be ok.
Is the Military beefer than the Spyderco Police model?

I second the Buck CSAR, definitely heavy use, a tops collaboration, I really love mine, the Bravo series are also heavy use, and can be found in your price range.
GOOD luck,
Charlie

No and yes, they're two different animals. Paste them into YouTube and watch NutnFancy's reviews.

I think Nutn is pretty well spot on, in his tabletop reviews of these two. Check out someone else's as well if you want more opinions.

I'd say so. You get a lot more belly to the blade and it handles larger. The Police is more of a see-how-much-blade-length-you-can-cram-into-a-thin-package knife. It was designed more for knife fighting, whereas the Military is a lightweight full featured utility blade.
