I bought a knife several years ago from David F. Pitt, a beautiful little Bird & Trout'ish pattern, highly polished, tapered tang, buffalo horn handle. Checked the knife in my safe a few days ago and something has eaten on the handle; appeared to be some sort of insect. Assumed some bug in my safe got hold of it, but no other knifes (other horn, ivory, wood and other natural materials) handle was damaged. Contacted David and he offered to replace the handle at no charge! "He said he guarantees his knives for life and I'm still alive" He said he had heard of buffalo horn having insect eggs that hatched after the knife was built. The thing is, he nor me knew that to be the case and that the insect could have been in my safe, yet he stood behind his guarantee. I feel David went beyond the call of duty and is truly one of the good guys.
He mentioned he will have a table at the up-coming California Knife Show. I encourage any attendees to stop by his table. He does great work but more importantly has outstanding integrity.
