So I'm waiting to go into work last night and from my jobs outside break room we can see a bridge that is I would guess 120-150 ft tall, anyways I'm sitting there talking with the Mrs. and I see a car fly off of the bridge....We heard a few sounds beforehand but it being so far away we couldn't really tell what happened it just got everyone outsides attention to the bridge. So people are freaking out people are on their phones calling the police and some are crying , as they knew that the car going off the bridge alone would probably result in a fatality. So we are all just staring at this and trying to comprehend what we just saw when the life saver helicopter lands, Well in the back of my mind I'm thinking o.k car goes off bridge and into the river , there is no way they have had time to get anyone out of the river yet so what is going on....Turns out it was a 2 car accident texting and driving, was the cause, and to make matters worse the driver of the car that went off the bridges ex-husband was at the table next to me and was watching the whole thing. The drivers sister also worked with us for years up until around this time last year until she too had a wreck caused by texting and driving , she is now disabled for life, the fatality was her twin sister. I don't know why I posted this, I really don't , something just told me I needed too. Maybe somebody who does text and drive will read this and think twice before they do it again. As for the driver of the other vehicle I was told by a member of the rescue squad they expected them to be D.O.A , but I haven't heard anything else...Sad situation all around that could of been easily avoided.

I've seen some things in my life, but to just be on the phone and see a car flying or falling about 150 ft was surreal. The only thing I kept thinking and still think is I really hope she was dead before she went over. Sounds harsh, but I know I wouldn't want to go over that bridge while alive or even conscious...

Thank you for your story. My son is about to get his license and my biggest fear is him texting and driving. I'm going to show him your post.

I build cars for a living, If you would like we have a billboard up of our cars that have survived what should of been fatal accidents, The board has 3 parts DUI accidents, texting and driving accidents, and then just regular accidents, none show bodies or blood or what have you , just the aftermath of collisions, If you would like me to get pics, I'll send you those...My daughter is supposed to be here Christmas Day so no kids of my own yet, but I have nieces and nephews and what have you , and I preach to them all the time about just how dangerous it is, trying to get a teenager to put a cellphone down, is like trying to take a piece of meat from a starving dog, At least it is for the ones I know. I went so far last year to buy the teenagers in my family , Or close to my family blue tooths, Even though it is against the law and the fine is pretty hefty around here you see it all the time...

You work for Hyundai?

No, you got the first letter right though, My company has some weird policies and procedures, I don't like mentioning their name online. I have seen them on several occasions check peoples facebook or what have you to see what they are saying about the company. I guess I'm a little paranoid about that, nothing personal though, I'm not discussing our technology or anything like that , but I still like to be on the safe side...

My son WANTS to get his license and a car, but he won't , I don't feel he is mature enough at this time, period. Until he shows me different.

He said the other day, dad, you know what car I want as my first car? I said no, he said I want a Corvette !

I said, so do I. Lol

Thank you for posting this, I sometimes catch myself looking at my phone to change the music. And all I can think is "wow what if.."

My sister crashed her car doin something on her phone, she was fine thankfully But she easily could have been killed She just crashed in the "right" place. My condolences for you coworker and friend.

That's a tragic story, the tragedy is that sort of thing can be avoided, people really don't understand how dangerous texting and driving is, even when they hear the stories some people really never wise up and they are a accident waiting to happen. I get really angry with some of my friends who won't listen to me when i tell them to not text and drive, they feel they are so in control and nothing will happen to them, i stopped riding along with them because i don't want any part in what they have coming.

Knowing consciously the dangers of texting and driving and yet still doing it is a lack of respect for life.

At 16 I got a almost brand new z-28 camaro, BAD IDEA, I had the car 2 months before wrapping it around a telephone pole, looking back I was an idiot, I raced that car every chance I got and did some of the dumbest things any 16 year old with a fast car would do, I was the cool kid with the camaro, but then I almost got killed. After that It was SUVs and family cars...Except for my bikes but that's a whole other thread, but with a new baby on the way my bike is sitting in the front yard with a For Sale sign on it...Not running the risk of leaving my daughter without a father because I'm an adrenaline junkie...

wait,..., bluetooth phone devices for your car are illegal in America????? please be joking or tell me I read that wrong

yeah that was my fault, I bought the teens in my family and close friends kids blue tooths, I meant even though texting and driving is illegal and the fine is huge you still see it all the time. btw razorsharp -travis love your YT channel. What was they mystery stone BTW ?

Thanks for the reminder, Allen. Even people who drive carefully have to worry about the others on the road who take life a little too casually. My condolences to the family, they sure have suffered because of this problem.

I won't even talk on the blame thing while driving. I pull over to answer a call or make a call.

Thanks for posting. I'm just adding this in so that this thread remains high ranked. Its a must read to not take driving for granted. Especially when you have family to take care of. My wife and myself both rode high powered sportsbikes. And when we bought the house and got married we decided it wasnt worth the risk to us as a unit. Too many crazies on the road. And too many accidents at the track during track days.

Not a whole lot we can do. People at large are really not interested in preventing this type of behavior. If they were, penalties would be much more harsh. Instead, the "it can't happen to me" mindset prevails.

I avoid two lane highways like the plague and keep all driving to a minimum. Can't do much else.
